Sources of nitrogen for winter wheat in organic cropping systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In organic cropping systems, legumes, cover crops, residue incorporation, and manure application are used to maintain soil fertility, but the contributions of these management practices to soil nitrogen (N) supply remain obscure.

Current Tracking Adaptive Control of Brushless DC Motors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
In this paper, the current tracking for Brushless Direct Current motors is approached considering uncertainty in the parameters of the motor's model. An adaptive control scheme to compensate electrical parameters uncertainty is proposed without requiring any knowledge of the mechanical parameters.

COMPOSITE REINFORCEMENT FOR REINFORCED SOIL APPLICATIONS

open access: yesSOILS AND FOUNDATIONS, 2003
Composite reinforcements achieve the desired performance with a synergetic action from two components. In this paper, development of a composite reinforcement system, made of high tensile steel wire, encased in a cement mortar as a viable system for soil reinforcement applications is proposed.

Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...

Dynamics of localised nitrogen supply and relevance for root growth of Vicia faba (‘Fuego’) and Hordeum vulgare (‘Marthe’) in soil

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Root growth responds to local differences in N-form and concentration. This is known for artificial systems and assumed to be valid in soil. The purpose of this study is to challenge this assumption for soil mesocosms locally supplied with urea with and ...
