Soil-Driven Self-Healing Concrete: Evaluation of Soil Bacteria, Encapsulated Nutrients, and Environmental Conditions [PDF]

open access: yes
Biotechnology opens exciting possibilities for underground concrete structures, such as tunnels and underground storage. Bio-self-healing concrete, which uses bacteria to repair cracks automatically, could enhance the sustainability of these structures

Single‐cell Transcriptome Profiling Reveals Gene Regulatory Networks and Key Genes in the Root Epidermis and Cortical Cells Associated with Early Nodulation in Glycine Max

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Single‐cell transcriptomics of soybean roots soon after rhizobial inoculation reveals epidermal and cortical cell‐specific programs and gene‐regulatory networks acting in symbiosis establishment. We identify an ethylene‐driven regulatory circuit involving WRKY6.3/6.4 transcription factors targeting select Nod19 genes that promotes infection‐thread ...

An Artificially Selected Cytokinin‐Pathway Transcription Factor Balances Soybean Yield and Pathogen Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A cytokinin pathway transcription factor, RR2b, was artificially selected during soybean domestication and improvement based on its differential transcriptional activity, which correlates with ATT repeat polymorphisms in its promoter. RR2b balances yield and defense by fine‐tuning its expression level and offers a promising target for decoupling trade ...

From Flow to Function: Using Different Static Mixers to Fabricate Microarchitected Materials Via Chaotic Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Complex microarchitectures emerge from simple flow‐driven transformations as static mixers iteratively reorient and split material domains. Coupled with diverse deposition strategies, chaotic printing provides an accessible platform for fabricating architected materials that support biologically and chemically relevant processes. ABSTRACT Nature builds

Stochastic and Deterministic Effects of a Moisture Gradient on Soil Microbial Communities in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Antarctic soil supports surface microbial communities that are dependent on ephemeral moisture. Understanding the response to availability of this resource is essential to predicting how the system will respond to climate change.

Hydrolysis of nitriles by soil bacteria: variation with soil origin

open access: yesJournal of Applied Microbiology, 2017
The aim of this study was to explore bacterial soil diversity for nitrile biocatalysts, in particular, those for hydrolysis of β-substituted nitriles, to the corresponding carboxamides and acids that may be incorporated into peptidomimetics. To achieve this, we needed to compare the efficiency of isolation methods and determine the influence of land ...

SIZ1‐Mediated SUMOylation of LBD29 Recruits ARF7 to Fine‐Tune Auxin Signaling in Lateral Root Development

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our findings establish SUMOylation as a key post‐translational control layer in auxin signaling. We show that SIZ1‐mediated SUMOylation of LBD29 promotes its association with ARF7, stabilizing a transcriptional hub that governs lateral root development.

Revolutionising Agricultural Sustainability: New ‘Furrow Tillage’ can Mitigate Short‐Term Soil‐to‐Atmosphere CO2 Flux and Promote Soil‐Plant‐Microbe Health

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Furrow tillage resolves the conventional‐vs.‐no‐tillage trade‐off by simultaneously cutting CO2 efflux to 2.0–3.0 g C m−2 d−1 and unlocking high nutrient availability for the rice rhizosphere. This scalable agronomic solution strengthens soil health, enhances plant physiology, reshapes microbial metabolism, and shifts paddy systems toward a net ...

The Influence of Agricultural Residues and Horse Manure on Chemical and Biological Properties of Soil [PDF]

open access: yesAssiut University Journal of Multidisciplinary Scientific Research
Animal droppings are essential for agriculture because they are rich in organic matter and nutrients that support plant growth. The application and management of manure from domestic animals is essential for the sustainability of agricultural practices ...
