Manure amendment and the rhizosphere of Amaranthus hybridus soil bacterial communities in a semi-arid irrigated agroecosystem

open access: yesEcosistemas y Recursos Agropecuarios
Soil biodiversity is fundamental to nutrient cycling and ecosystem functioning in agroecosystems, yet the combined effects of organic amendments and weed rhizospheres on soil bacterial communities remain insufficiently explored in semi-arid irrigated ...

Grazing lowers soil multifunctionality but boosts soil microbial network complexity and stability in a subtropical grassland of China

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
IntroductionLong-term grazing profoundly affects grassland ecosystems, whereas how the soil microbiome and multiple soil ecosystem functions alter in response to two-decades of grazing, especially how soil microbiome (diversity, composition, network ...

Impact of Arsenite on the Bacterial Community Structure and Diversity in Soil

open access: yesMicrobes and environments, 2016
The impact of arsenite (As[III]) on the bacterial community structure and diversity in soil was determined by incubating soil slurries with 50, 500, and 5,000 μM As(III). As(III) was oxidized to arsenate (As[V]), and the microbial contribution to As(III) oxidation was 70-100%.

A comparison of rpoB and 16S rRNA as markers in pyrosequencing studies of bacterial diversity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: The 16S rRNA gene is the gold standard in molecular surveys of bacterial and archaeal diversity, but it has the disadvantages that it is often multiple-copy, has little resolution below the species level and cannot be readily interpreted in ...

Increased stability of a subtropic bamboo forest soil bacterial communities through integration of water and fertilizer management compared to conventional management

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background Conventional management (CM), substantial fertilization and flooding irrigation, has led to soil acidification, the decrease in soil bacterial diversity in bamboo forests.
