SUMMARYExperiments on the lines indicated in the preceding paper but with improved methods confirm that the depth‐distribution of carbon disulphide in soil fumigated by injection is characterized by:A high concentration in the zone of injection and immediately below it.A rapid decrease in concentration as the surface is approached.A somewhat slower ...

Occupational dermatosis due to a soil fumigant
Contact Dermatitis, 1976D‐D® mixture is a preplant soil fumigant. It contains dichloropropanes and dichloropropenes. epichlorohydrin and is known as a primary irritant.Three cases of untoward reaction to D‐D are reported. By patch testing, the existence of a contact allergic sensitivity to D‐D could be proved in one patient.

The compound 1,3-D (1,3-dichloropropene) is a potential candidate soil fumigant due to the restrictions on methyl bromide (MB). To date, little is known about the soil microbial community changes induced by 1,3-D fumigation.

Leaching Potential of Persistent Soil Fumigant Residues
Environmental Science & Technology, 2003Persistent fumigant residues in soil resulting from agricultural pest-control practices may be released into water and leached to groundwater. In this study, the leaching potential of persistent soil fumigant residues was evaluated, and the effect of dissolved organic matter (DOM) and ammonium thiosulfate (ATS) amendment was investigated.

Organic carbon extraction efficiency in chloroform fumigated and non‐fumigated soils
Soil Science Society of America Journal, 2001The chloroform‐fumigation extraction (CFE) method is widely used to estimate soil microbial biomass. The relationship between extraction efficiency and the extractant‐to‐soil ratio has not been fully investigated in chloroform fumigated and non‐fumigated soils. We analyzed the extraction efficiency of 0.5 M K 2

Oxygen inhibition of denitrification in chloroform fumigated and non-fumigated soil
Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 1991Abstract The effect of chloroform fumigation on O 2 inhibition of denitrification was evaluated in non-fumigated, fumigated and sterile soil with 0, 1, 2. 3 or 6% added O 2 using the C 2 H 2 inhibition technique. Chloroform fumigation was used to lyse microbes and thereby release nitrate reductase which may decrease O 2 inhibition.

Soil fumigation of sultana vines
Australian Journal of Experimental Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, 1966Soil supporting mature sultana vines at 23 sites on loam and sandy loam soils in the Merbein district was fumigated with 92.2 per cent w/w 1,2-dibromo-3-chloropropene at the rate of 2 1/2 gallons an acre. Significant yield increases were recorded at four sites in the second season after treatment, and at eight sites in the third season.

A NOVEL SOIL FUMIGANT FOR STRAWBERRIES
Acta Horticulturae, 2009Adequate and cost effective replacements for Methyl Bromide (MeBr) have been identified for some crops, though it continues to be used for strawberries, tomatoes, peppers and others. This will change in the coming years when a complete ban on MeBr goes into effect. Acid-Amine Technologies (USA) and Petramin (Mexico) have developed SFMEF (Patent Pending)
