Soil Heat Deficit Regulation-Based Cross-Seasonal Heat Storage of Medium-Deep Borehole Heat Exchanger

open access: yesBuildings
Medium-deep borehole heat exchanger (MBDHE) is a clean building heating solution that offers improved indoor thermal comfort, but it risks heat extraction capacity deterioration due to insufficient geothermal heat flux recovery.

Analysis of Inter-seasonal Heat Fluxes in Soils

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2014
AbstractAssessment of the practical implementation of systems for subsurface inter-seasonal storage and recovery of solar energy requires a modelling capability which can represent heat transfer processes at the soil surface, at depth in the soil profile, and within the energy collector system itself. This study presents initial findings related to the

Spatially Decoupling Heating and Evaporation for Convection‐Enhanced 3D Solar Evaporation With Continuous Salt Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An architecture‐enabled bottom‐heated 3D solar convective evaporator spatially decouples photothermal heating from evaporation, triggering natural convection that intensifies sidewall vapour removal and heat transfer. The system achieves significantly enhanced evaporation rates over 2D and conventional 3D designs while confining salt precipitation to ...

Bioinspired Mechanically Robust Organic–Inorganic Hybridized Bio‐Adhesives With up to 50% Inorganic Components by Bi‐Continuous Phase Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A robust plant protein adhesive was prepared by fabricating a bi‐continuous organic–inorganic hybrid structure. Compared with traditional organic–inorganic hybrid adhesives, the addition amount of inorganic phase is increased from 0.2%–3.0% to 50%, and the strength and toughness are increased by 6 and 121 times, respectively.

Surprising Water Slipping Performance on Highly Hydrophilic PEG‐Derived Monolayer‐Covered Surfaces: Preparation, Mechanism, and Application

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Highly hydrophilic surfaces (water contact angle, ≈17.7°) exhibiting surprising water slipping performance (sliding angle, ≈7.3°) are successfully prepared via simple chemisorption of polyethylene glycol (PEG) organosilane and subsequent alkali‐treatment.

Exploring atmospheric exchange with natural tracers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This study is focused on the application of radon (222Rn; half life time of 3.82 days) as an atmospheric tracer for evaluating the exchange of trace compounds between the land surface and the atmosphere and for understanding atmospheric mixing processes.
