Cattle trampling reduces the risk of nitrate leaching in organic dairy rotations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Organic dairy farming is characterized by grazing cows in contrast to Danish conventional farms where the majority of cows are kept indoors. Cattle trampling reduces the finer macroporosity in the top 5-10 cm of the soil.

Evaluation of greenwaste mulch to control runoff quality from landfill sites during frequent storms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper describes a preliminary evaluation of two types of greenwaste (fresh and aged) used as a mulch layer to control runoff from disturbed landfill areas. Fresh greenwaste refers to woody and herbaceous garden waste that has been recently collected,

A CLE11b‐CLE16 Signaling Relay Mediates Root‐Shoot‐Root Crosstalk for Drought Adaptation in Common Bean

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel root‐shoot‐root signaling relay, mediated by CLE peptides, coordinates drought adaptation in common bean. Root‐derived PvCLE11b translocates acropetally to leaves, inducing PvCLE16 expression via PvTCP10. Leaf‐accumulated PvCLE16 triggers stomatal closure and translocates basipetally to modulate root architecture.

Effect of Exposed Bedrock on Soil Water Infiltration in Karst Region

open access: yesShuitu Baochi Xuebao
[Objective] The strong dissolvability of carbonate rock leads to the spatial distribution of karst soil and bedrock, and the outcroppings of bedrock are common, but the mechanism of their influence on hydrological processes is still unclear.

Predicting Soil Infiltration and Horizon Thickness for a Large-Scale Water Balance Model in an Arid Environment

open access: yes, 2016
Prediction of soil characteristics over large areas is desirable for environmental modeling. In arid environments, soil characteristics often show strong ecological connectivity with natural vegetation, specifically biomass and/or canopy cover ...

The infiltration rate of developed and undeveloped area in Universiti Malaysia Pahang [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Infiltration is a process whereby the water from land surface infiltrate into the soil. Infiltration represent component of biggest water loss from precipitation source. Water infiltrate into the soil through pore spaces such as cracks and slit. The main

OsGSK2‐OsTCP19 Module Integrates Nitrogen and Brassinosteroid Signaling to Regulate Nitrogen Utilization and Root Growth in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
OsGSK2‐OsTCP19 module regulating nitrate response and lateral root (LR) development. Low‐nitrate condition results in reduced BR response, accumulation of OsGSK2 and phosphorylated OsTCP19, which suppresses the expression of nitrate‐responsive genes and LR‐development genes and impairs rice growth.

Wood‐Based Bioelectronics: Lignosulfonate‐Based Conductive Biocomposites for Paper Organic Electrochemical Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Biodegradable wood‐based bioelectronics are realized by integrating poly (2,3‐ethylenedioxythiopene:lignosulfonate (PEDOT:LigS) as a mixed ionicelectronic channel in organic electrochemical transistors fabricated on paper substrates. The biocomposite exhibits high conductivity, biocompatibility, and strong transistor performance, while devices built on

Analysis of Alfisol Soil Infiltration Rate on Various Land Cover and Its Effect on Soil Erodibility in Mount Bromo Special Purpose Forest Area, Indonesia

open access: yesJurnal Sylva Lestari
Plant canopies can protect the soil surface from raindrops and rooting activities that cause changes in biophysical properties. A low infiltration rate will reduce the soil’s capacity to store water to be low, resulting in a high soil erodibility value ...
