CONSOLIDATION OF A CROSS-ANISOTROPIC SOIL MEDIUM
The Quarterly Journal of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics, 1984The paper presents a solution, using integral transforms, for the consolidation of a soil medium with cross-anisotropic deformation and flow properties. Numerical results are presented for circular and rectangular surface loading of an infinitely deep medium.

Soil-structure interaction in a layered medium
International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1990Abstract A hybrid method based on the Green's function formalism is proposed for two-dimensional dynamic soil-structure interaction analysis in a multilayered half-space. The method models the near field (structure and surrounding soil) by finite elements and solves the far field problem through a continuum approach based on an adaptation of the ...

Pollutants Transport in the Soil Medium
1996After reaching the soil-solid surfaces, before, while, or after being subjected to biologically or chemically induced transformation, or retained by the soil constituents as sorbed or bound residues, the pollutants are redistributed in the soil profile as solutes and/or water-liquids immiscible, in gaseous form or adsorbed on colloids and other fine ...

Mechanics of dynamic penetration into soil medium
Mechanics of Solids, 2010This paper presents a survey of the results of experimental and theoretical studies in the field of high-speed penetration into soil media, which were obtained in the Institute for Problems in Mechanics, Russian Academy of Sciences. New methods for determining the dynamic parameters of such media are proposed.

1996
The soil is the upper layer of the unsaturated zone of the earth. Soils are very diverse in composition and behavior. The solid phase consists of mineral particles of various sizes and shapes and organic matter in various stages of degradation. Plant roots and the living soil population complete the system.

Automated updating of medium-scale soil maps
Eurasian Soil Science, 2016An approach towards an automated updating of medium-scale soil maps via imitation of traditional mapping technologies is suggested. It is based on formulation of the rules of mapping in the form of classification trees for separating different soil cover patterns and on creation of the maps of soil-forming factors with the use of satellite data ...

DEADMAN ANCHORAGES IN VARIOUS SOIL MEDIUMS
1966Abstract : A test program was conducted to investigate deadman anchorage holding capacities under applied horizontal loads. Deadmen fabricated of concrete and ranging in face area from 5 to 72 square feet were tested in depths of embedment from ground level to 7 feet.
