Biomedical research involving United States Veterans continues to advance healthcare beyond the Veterans Health Administration. This is particularly true in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), where Veteran‐centric research has uncovered novel insights into pathogenesis, risk factors, and disease manifestations, informing clinical care and research across both ...

Interactions between sewage sludge and the survival of pathogenic bacteria in soil [PDF]
Sewage sludge is a potentially valuable resource that can enhance both the structure and fertility of soil. However, it can also harbour enteric pathogens which pose a significant socio-economic risk to society.

Quantifying the Contribution of Sediment Load to Soil Detachment Rate by Sediment-Laden Rill Flow
Sediment load changes with downslope distance during rill erosion process, and thus quantifying the potential contribution of sediment load on soil detachment rate is essential to accurately model the rill erosion process.

Self‐Cleaning Sensor Surfaces for Long‐Term Environmental Monitoring
Long‐term use of unattended outdoor sensors without soiling or biofouling is achieved through generation of a micro‐ and nanorough cuvette surface by combing hydrophobic nanoparticles with fluorinated polymers, crosslinked and surface‐attached through CHic chemistry. The coating demonstrates self‐cleaning behavior and prolonged outdoor stability, which

Composted Sewage Sludge Influences the Microbiome and Persistence of Human Pathogens in Soil
Composted sewage sludge (CSS) gained attention as a potential fertilizer in agriculture. Application of CSS increases soil microbial activity and microbial biomass, however, it can also lead to increased chemical and microbiological risks. In this study,

Long Term Persistence of Parathion in Soil [PDF]
PARATHION, an early organophosphorus insecticide introduced commercially in 1947, is, like most other compounds in this group, considered to be relatively non-persistent on plants and in soil. West1 reported its persistence to be 5–12 days on plants, and Lichtenstein2 showed that 97% of a soil application disappeared within three months.

Disorder‐Broadened Topological Hall Phase and Anomalous Hall Scaling in FeGe
By systematically introducing defects into FeGe via ion‐beam modification, we demonstrate that disorder broadens the temperature regime over which the topological Hall effect ‐ a signature of skyrmions or other chiral textures — appears, while also increasing its magnitude.
