Design of Smart Weed Control System with Consideration of Herbicide Persistence Using Supervised Learning

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2023
One of the factors that affect the quality and quantity of crops is due to stress factors caused by weeds. The presence of weeds in a field of crop is always stressful for the crop plant due to the competition for nutrients, light and moisture ...

Persistence of microbial extracellular enzymes in soils under different temperatures and water availabilities

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2020
Microbial extracellular enzyme activity (EEA) is critical for the decomposition of organic matter in soils. Generally, EEA represents the limiting step governing soil organic matter mineralization.

Long Term Persistence of Parathion in Soil [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1971
PARATHION, an early organophosphorus insecticide introduced commercially in 1947, is, like most other compounds in this group, considered to be relatively non-persistent on plants and in soil. West1 reported its persistence to be 5–12 days on plants, and Lichtenstein2 showed that 97% of a soil application disappeared within three months.

Advancing SafeWax, A Bio‐Inspired Superhydrophobic Coating, Toward Sustainable and Climate‐Resilient Crop Protection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study advances SafeWax, a bio‐inspired, fatty‐acids‐based superhydrophobic coating, by identifying an agriculturally compliant solvent and revealing how solvent‐controlled Fatty acid crystallization governs the coating's microscopic structure and performance.

Biodegradable 3D‐Printable and Coatable Antifouling Composites for Marine Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Marine biofouling damages submerged surfaces and raises greenhouse gas emissions. Biodegradable antifouling biocomposites were developed by hot‐mixing beeswax, Tween 80, and calcium stearate or stearic acid. Adjusting the component ratio enables processing via hot‐pressing, 3D‐printing, or dip‐coating.

Composted Sewage Sludge Influences the Microbiome and Persistence of Human Pathogens in Soil

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2020
Composted sewage sludge (CSS) gained attention as a potential fertilizer in agriculture. Application of CSS increases soil microbial activity and microbial biomass, however, it can also lead to increased chemical and microbiological risks. In this study,

Persistence of soil organic matter in eroding versus depositional landform positions [PDF]

open access: yes
Soil organic matter (SOM) processes in dynamic landscapes are strongly influenced by soil erosion and sedimentation. We determined the contribution of physical isolation of organic matter (OM) inside aggregates, chemical interaction of OM with soil ...

Persistence and Viability of Lecanicillium lecanii in Chinese Agricultural Soil.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
The entomopathogenic fungus L. lecanii has been developed as biopesticides and used widely for biological control of several insects in agricultural practice. Due to the lack of isolation/count methods for L.
