Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis, 2004Abstract Soil pH variation exists in particles of every kind of soils, including alkaline soil. The objective of this study was to examine soil pH varia-tion in a neutral and an alkaline soil using the column-leaching method. Column-leaching tests were applied to two soils (Callaway and Mount Palomar) at the depths of 0–30 and 30–60 cm.

pH tests were carried out on eight soil samples taken from the site at the time of excavation. These were prepared and processed according to Black 1965, 922-923. Locations of the samples and the results showing the soils to be acidic are given below. All the samples were taken from the medium brown sandy loam (fig. 4).
