Machinery’s impact on forest soil porosity

Journal of Terramechanics, 2020
The heavy machines used in forest operations not only cause reduction of the total amount of soil pores but also drastically modify their size distribution. The effects in these terms of repeated passages of a tracked skidder and a wheeled one of quite similar size were evaluated in a forest of central Italy.

Study on Improvement of Soil Porosity

2022
In order to further improve soil porosity and improve soil physical properties, the raw materials, formula and application methods of soil amendment were optimized, and the pH and porosity of yellow soil were compared and analyzed after application of soil amendment.

Organic carbon and soil porosity

Australian Journal of Soil Research, 2003
The %C within the top sandy 0.15 m of a sodic Hydrosol under native trees consisted of a constant %C in uncharged organic matter and a %C in negatively charged organic matter decreasing linearly with depth, as did the specific volume of the soil. The kaolinitic clay present was strongly bonded together.

Predicting Porosity of Fired Soil Aggregates

Journal of Transportation Engineering, 1984
The porosity of preformed fired soil aggregates for pores larger than 0.05 μm in radius (POR), which mainly determines the potential of bitumen absorption, cannot be successfully correlated to a single soil property. Multiple regression analysis shows a significant correlation of aggregate porosity POR with the following soil parameters: diameter ...

Porosity and soil water properties of Caribbean volcanic ash soils

Soil Use and Management, 2000
Abstract. Volcanic ash soils are generally recognized as soils with excellent and stable physical properties. Here we characterized the porosity and water properties of volcanic ash Andosols and Nitisols from Guadeloupe in contrasting banana systems: (1) perennial crop without mechanization, (2) mechanized and ...

Fractal Fragmentation, Soil Porosity, and Soil Water Properties: II. Applications

Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1991
Abstract The fractal model of Rieu and Sposito contains seven predictive equations that can be tested experimentally with data on aggregate characteristics and soil water properties for structured soils. However, data with which to test the model are extremely limited at present because of the need to have precise, concurrent ...
