Potassium in Atlantic Coastal Plain Soils: I. Soil Characterization and Distribution of Potassium

Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1989
Abstract Corn ( Zea mays L.) grown on sandy Atlantic Coastal Plain soils is often unresponsive to applications of K fertilizer. As part of a field study on the response of irrigated, intensively managed corn to K applications, we characterized four representative Hapludults ...

Comparison of soil test methods for predicting cotton response to soil and fertilizer potassium on potassium fixing soils

Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis, 1990
Abstract Cotton (Gossvpium hirsutum L.) yields are limited by K deficiency in extensive areas of California where soils contain minerals that fix K in nonreplaceable forms. A survey study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between seed cotton yield and four soil test methods for K by regression analysis.

Potassium uptake by soybean as affected by exchangeable potassium in soil

Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis, 1985
Abstract Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) has been shown to have a great capacity to take K from soil, suggesting that it might absorb K from non‐exchangeable forms. In this paper, the effect of level of K fertilization on soil exchangeable K content and K uptake by soybean are discussed. The experiment was conducted on a Typic Haplortox (sandy loam),

Estimating Plant-Available Potassium in Potassium-Fixing Soils

Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis, 2013
Soil tests commonly used to develop potassium (K) fertilizer recommendations, such as extraction by 1 M ammonium acetate (NH4OAc) at pH 7, measure both soluble and exchangeable K. In soils that fix K so that it is no longer exchangeable, although a portion of it may still be available to plants, additional tests are required to understand the dynamics ...

AVAILABLE SOIL POTASSIUM AND FERTILIZER POTASSIUM FOR BRUSSELS SPROUTS

Canadian Journal of Plant Science, 1971
Brussels sprouts (Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera DC., Jade Cross) require no potassium fertilizer on Prince Edward Island soils if exchangeable soil K as determined by neutral 1 N ammonium acetate exceeds 100 ppm. Below 75 ppm exchangeable soil K, 186 kg K/ha must be applied for maximum yields.

The availability of the potassium in some scottish soils

The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1929
(1) The solubility of the potash in 34 soil samples from 13 soils typical of large areas in the East of Scotland has been determined by the methods of chemical analysis using (a) hot concentrated hydrochloric acid, and (b) 1 per cent, citric acid solution, and the values obtained compared with the quantities of potash existing in the exchangeable form.
