Experimental tests on new materials and techniques for soil solarization and mathematical models for the prediction of soil temperature

open access: yes, 1997
In order to test innovative, environmentally sustainable materials and higher energy efficiency techniques for soil solarization field experiments were carried out during July and August 1993 using photodegradable plastic film (0.012 mm thick) for ...

Reduction of Landscape Pathogens in Florida by Soil Solarization [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Disease, 2002
Two experiments were conducted during autumn 1997 and 1998 in west-central Florida to evaluate the effectiveness of soil solarization alone and in combination with the biological control agents Streptomyces lydicus (Actinovate) and Pseudomonas chlororaphis (syn. P. aureofasciens, AtEze) and the reduced-risk fungicide fludioxonil (Medallion) in managing

Photocatalytic Water Splitting on the Lunar Surface: Prospects for In Situ Resource Utilization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Water has been found in craters on the moon nearby locations which are illuminated >80% of the time. Photocatalysis uses energy from sunlight to drive chemical reactions such as water splitting to produce oxygen and hydrogen. It is a scalable technology that requires lighter equipment and utilizes resources available on the moon. ABSTRACT The discovery

Long Time Effect of Soil Solarization Integrated with Dazomet or Chicken Manure on Yield, Weeds and Root-Knot Nematodes in Tomato and Melon

open access: yesItalian Journal of Agronomy, 2008
Effects of 5-week soil solarization, either alone or combined with dazomet or a chicken manure compost, on tomato and melon yield, root-knot nematode infestation and weeds were investigated along three crop cycles in a plastic greenhouse infested by ...

Yield Response and Antioxidant Activity of Greenhouse Organic Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Duch.) as Affected by Soil Solarization and Biofumigation

open access: yesHorticulturae, 2023
In intensive cropping systems, soil fumigation, i.e., the use of gas chemical pesticides applied to the soil covered with impermeable plastic film, represents an effective method to control most of the soilborne pests.

Recent Advances in Laser‐Induced Graphene‐Based Gas Sensors: From Sensing Mechanisms to Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) provides a scalable, laser‐direct‐written route to porous graphene architecture with tunable chemistry and defect density. Through heterojunction engineering, catalytic functionalization, and intrinsic self‐heating, LIG achieves highly sensitive and selective detection of NOX, NH3, H2, and humidity, supporting next ...

Perennial weeds respond to control by soil solarization

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1993
Soil solarization in summers in Central Valley and near-coastal sites controlled bermudagrass and johnsongrass covered by polyethylene tarps. Field bindweed was also controlled during solarization, but regrowth occurred.

Agronomic use of solarization technology on soil fertility and pest management in dryland agriculture

open access: yesCogent Food & Agriculture
Crop production in dryland agriculture is challenged by weed infestation, and soil borne diseases which are sever in poorly fertile and moisture deficit soils where pathogen spores and weed seeds endure and persist for several years.

The Plant‐to‐Plant Circular Strategy: Coupling Photodegradation and Phytoremediation With Plant‐Based Nanomaterials for Plastic Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Plant‐based nanomaterials derived from alfalfa serve as dual‐function catalysts, coupling photodegradation and phytoremediation to degrade polyethylene under UV‐A light and in soil. The nanomaterials work synergistically with alfalfa and soil microbes, achieving efficient plastic breakdown without trophic transfer.
