Inverse meta-modelling to estimate soil available water capacity at high spatial resolution across a farm

open access: yes, 2011
Geo-referenced information on crop production that is both spatially- and temporally-dense would be useful for management in precision agriculture (PA). Crop yield monitors provide spatially but not temporally dense information.

Transcription Factor Promiscuity Drives Regulatory Rewiring and Evolvability in Gene Networks in Bacteria

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
When a master transcription factor (TF) is lost, bacteria can rapidly rewire gene regulatory networks by co‐opting related regulators. Using experimental evolution in Pseudomonas fluorescens, we show that TF promiscuity (low‐level, non‐cognate binding) provides the raw material for rewiring. Successful co‐option follows a predictable hierarchy governed

Spatial variability of groundwater recharge - II. Factors affecting variability and taking account of it in estimating recharge

open access: yes, 2004
The accompanying paper provided evidence to suggest that spatial variability of groundwater recharge is ‘true’ variability. This paper attempts to determine the major causes of such variability even at small distances, if there appear to be a frequency ...

Incorporating spatial variability in soil and crop properties for effective irrigation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Soil water content varies spatially and temporally on landscapes due to various processes including water loss by evapotranspiration (ET). When rainfall is not sufficient to meet water demand caused by ET losses from crop fields, irrigation becomes ...

Integration of Spatiotemporal Multi‐Omics in Peach Fruit Unravels a Metabolic Niche and the Genetic Basis of Trichome‐Mediated Stress Adaptation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study constructed the first spatiotemporal multi‐omics map of peach fruit and discovered a key candidate gene that synergistically regulates trichome development and drought tolerance through the jasmonic acid signaling pathway, providing insights into the coupling mechanism between development and stress resistance.

Spatial variability of groundwater recharge - I. Is it really variable?

open access: yes, 2004
The spatial variability of recharge is an important consideration in estimating recharge especially as all methods of estimating it are 'point' estimates and in most places recharge varies in space.

Spatial variability of soil salinity in Bohai Sea coastal wetlands, China: Partition into four management zones [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Soil salinization constitutes an environmental hazard worldwide. The Bohai Sea coastal wetland area is experiencing dramatic soil salinization, which is affecting its economic development.

Natural Variation of NAR5 Determines Nitrogenase Activity and the Yield in Soybean

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identified NAR5, a gene encoding a subtilisin‐like protease, that regulates nitrogenase activity in soybean nodules. Overexpressing NAR5 delayed nodule senescence, enhancing nitrogenase activity, yield, and low‐nitrogen tolerance. The elite haplotype NAR5HapI‐1 linked to superior nitrogenase activity and greater seed weight has been ...

The arable farmer as the assessor of within-field soil variation

open access: yes, 2010
Feasible, fast and reliable methods of mapping within-field variation are required for precision agriculture. Within precision agriculture research much emphasis has been put on technology, whereas the knowledge that farmers have and ways to explore it ...
