Reconstructing Quaternary landscapes and hydrology from soil survey maps
This study was done to investigate the pre-settlement condition of the southern Des Moines Lobe landscape, with particular interest in the hydrological function of depressional wetlands. Soil survey maps were used to identify the soil formation environment from soil properties observed today.

The Role of Digital Soil Mapping in Soil Survey and Agricultural Planning
Digital Soil Mapping (DSM) is an essential tool for soil survey and agricultural planning. It involves creating and populating spatial soil information using field and laboratory observations, often referred to as "predictive soil mapping" or "pedometric mapping." DSM provides detailed information on various soil properties, including soil pH, soil ...

Adaptive sampling and reconnaissance surveys for geostatistical mapping of the soil
Summary The effort required to survey a soil variable depends upon the acceptable uncertainty of estimates and the variogram of the variable. The variogram is unknown prior to sampling, so it must be inferred from a reconnaissance survey before an efficient survey can be designed.

A survey on inline soil pollution measurement and mapping technologies
This paper reviews recent advancements in underground positioning and monitoring, particularly for soil pollution detection and mapping. Unlike conventional indoor and outdoor systems, underground environments pose unique challenges. Robotic platforms, including the Moon/Mars Underground Mole (MMUM) and bioinspired Mole-bot, utilize drills, augers, and

Digitization and mapping of national legacy soil data of Montenegro
This paper describes the process of digitizing Montenegro's legacy soil data, and an initial attempt to use it for digital soil mapping (DSM) purposes. The handwritten legacy numerical records of physical and chemical properties for more than 10 000 soil

Using detailed soil maps to calibrate DSM models could be an alternative to point observations, as they would account for local soil patterns more accurately than the sparse sets of soil profiles classically used in broad-scale DSM applications. However,
