Water Retention Characteristics and Soil-Water Characteristic Curve Model of Weak Expansive Soil

Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, 2021
To investigate the water retention characteristics of weak expansive soil, the full suction range was determined for soil samples with different initial void ratios prepared according to the slurry consolidation method. Differences in water retention characteristics between samples prepared using slurry consolidation methods and those prepared using ...

Equations for the soil-water characteristic curve

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1994
The soil-water characteristic curve can be used to estimate various parameters used to describe unsaturated soil behaviour. A general equation for the soil-water characteristic curve is proposed. A nonlinear, least-squares computer program is used to determine the best-fit parameters for experimental data presented in the literature.

Soil-water characteristic curves of clays

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2014
The drying suction – water content soil-water characteristic curves (SWCCs) of three clays (MX80 bentonite, yellow bentonite, and Speswhite kaolin) were experimentally determined using axis-translation, vapour equilibrium, and osmotic techniques. The shrinkage paths of the clays were established from Clod tests.

Effects of microplastics on the water characteristic curve of soils with different textures

Chemosphere, 2022
Microplastic (MP) pollution in the soil severely damages the soil structure and affects the soil water-holding property, thereby affecting the soil water characteristic curve (SWCC). After polyethylene MP (PE-MP) addition at three concentrations (0.5%, 1%, and 2%) under three particle sizes (150 μm, 550 μm, and 950 μm) and two soil textures (sandy soil

Comparison of Field and Laboratory Soil–Water Characteristic Curves

Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2005
Results of field monitoring of moisture content and matric suction at the crest and berm of a large cut slope in completely decomposed granite in Hong Kong are reported. Field moisture content and matric suction clearly show that the volumetric water content increases as a result of rainfall infiltration and decreases as a result of evaporation ...

Soil–water characteristic curves of gap-graded soils

Engineering Geology, 2012
Abstract Soil–water characteristic curves (SWCCs) of compacted mixtures of residual soil and gravel with different particle sizes were determined from laboratory tests. The study involved compacted mixtures of 50% residual soil by dry mass and 50% gravel of different particle sizes.

Bayesian estimation of soil-water characteristic curves

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2022
The soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) is a significant prerequisite for studying the mechanical properties of unsaturated soil. As experimental measurement of the SWCC is time-consuming, empirical methods have been suggested to estimate the SWCC. However, the uncertainty associated with SWCC can be substantial.

Soil-Water Characteristic Curves of Stabilized Expansive Soils

Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2006
The engineering properties of expansive soils are conventionally improved through the use of additives such as fly ash, lime, and chemical additives. Such soils are often referred to as stabilized or modified or treated expansive soils. The soil-water characteristic curves (SWCC) of two expansive soils from Texas were measured both in natural and ...

An evolutionary approach to modelling the soil–water characteristic curve in unsaturated soils

Computers & Geosciences, 2012
In this paper a new approach is presented based on evolutionary polynomial regression (EPR) for modelling of soil-water characteristic curve in unsaturated soils. EPR is an evolutionary data mining technique that generates a transparent and structured representation of the behaviour of a system directly from data.
