Nitrogen migration and transformation characteristics of the soil in karst areas under the combined application of oxalic acid and urea inhibitors

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
ObjectiveWe investigated the horizontal migration and transformation of nitrogen in soil with oxalic acid and inhibitors (e.g., nitrification inhibitors, DMPP, urease inhibitors, and NBPT) under different soil water contents to provide a basis for the ...

Microwave Remote Sensing of Soil Moisture [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Because of the large contrast between the dielectric constant of liquid water and that of dry soil at microwave wavelength, there is a strong dependence of the thermal emission and radar backscatter from the soil on its moisture content.

Long‐Term Elevated CO2 Improves Soil Health and Rice Yields in Paddy Fields

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Combining the two longest‐running rice free‐air CO2 enrichment experiments with a global data synthesis, this study demonstrates that long‐term elevated CO2 consistently enhances soil health. In rice paddies, this improvement sustains the CO2 fertilization effect over decades.

Data assimilation of in situ soil moisture measurements in hydrological models: first annual doctoral progress report, work plan and achievements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Water scarcity and the presence of water of good quality is a serious public concern since it determines the availability of water to society. Water scarcity especially in arid climates and due to extreme droughts related to climate change drive water ...

Structural and Functional Characterization of EXPO‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles in Plants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, 3D electron tomography (ET), cryo‐ET, and immunogold transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are employed to characterize plant extracellular vesicles (EVs) under physiological conditions. EVs are classified into three distinct categories according to their size, content, and molecular‐marker profiles. Furthermore, Exo70E2‐positive medium

Photosynthetic traits, water use and the yield of maize are influenced by soil water stability

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of soil water stability on maize (Zea mays L.) yield, water use, and its photosynthetic physiological mechanisms, and to innovate the relationship between maize and soil water, which currently

2‐line Ferrihydrite Enhance Microbial Synthesis of Plant Biostimulants in Composted Biosolid by Regulating Phyla Pseudomonadota and Actinomycetota

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study explores how iron and manganese oxides transform sewage sludge into plant biostimulants during composting. Non‐targeted identification reveals the main species of plant biostimulants. Metagenomic analysis reveals that 2‐line ferrihydrite specifically enriches microbial genes for biosynthesis, boosting plant‐growth promoters.

Effect of Soil Moisture Content on Condensation Water in Typical Loess and Sandy Soil

open access: yesLand
Many scholars have used samples of drying soil to observe the amount of soil condensation water, which may have exaggerated the amount of regional condensation water, as the soil water content in the natural state was not considered.
