Approximate solutions and scaling transformations for quadratic solitons

open access: yes, 1999
We study quadratic solitons supported by two- and three-wave parametric interactions in chi-2 nonlinear media. Both planar and two-dimensional cases are considered.

Shaping Ti3C2 MXene Nanospheres for Precision Near‐Infrared Photothermal Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we report producing spherical MXenes via fs laser fragmentation of Ti3C2 flakes in liquid medium. The nanoparticles demonstrated pronounced light absorption and high photothermal conversion efficiencies of 68% and 63% under heating with NIR‐I and NIR‐II lasers, respectively.

Order Parameter Equations for Front Transitions: Planar and Circular Fronts

open access: yes, 1997
Near a parity breaking front bifurcation, small perturbations may reverse the propagation direction of fronts. Often this results in nonsteady asymptotic motion such as breathing and domain breakup.

Resolvable bibd and sols

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 1983
AbstractThe ideas of a base factorization and a resolvable grid system are introduced, and a construction of a resolvable balanced incomplete block design (BIBD) from these structures is given. Resolvable grid systems can be constructed from mutually orthogonal self-orthogonal latin squares (SOLS) with symmetric mate. Together these results prove, as a

A Formal Definition of SOL [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Electronic Computers, 1964
This paper gives a formal definition of SOL, a general-purpose algorithmic language useful for describing and simulating complex systems. SOL is described using meta-linguistic formulas as used in the definition of ALGOL 60. The principal differences between SOL and problem-oriented languages such as ALGOL or FORTRAN is that SOL includes capabilities ...

Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Window into the Early Stages of Complex Material Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,
