Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.)
Methods in molecular biology (Clifton, N.J.), 2006Eggplant is an economically important vegetable crop in Asia and Africa, and although it is grown in Europe and the United States, it does not account for a significant percentage of agricultural production. It is susceptible to a number of pathogens and insects, with bacterial and fungal wilts being the most devastating. Attempts to improve resistance

2.7. Correlation of compound abundance with site-origin of eggplantlandraces Artificial selection for local preferences of fruit qualities such as flavor, as well as adaptation to local agricultural conditions and ecologies, may contribute to eggplant phenolic diversity just as genetic history does.

Peroxidases of Solanum melongena leaves
Phytochemistry, 1973Abstract Three major peroxidases, designated as A , B 2 and B 2 from Solanum melongena leaves have been reported. Peroxidases- A , - B 2 and - B 2 were considered to be true peroxidases on the basis of k 1 : k 4 ratio. The pH optima for the three enzymes were found to be 7·0, 6·0 and 6.0 respectively.

Hypolipidemic effect of flavonoids from Solanum melongena
Plant Foods for Human Nutrition, 1997Flavonoids extracted from the fruits of Solanum melongena (Brinjal) orally administered at a dose of 1 mg/100 g BW/day showed significant hypolipidemic action in normal and cholesterol fed rats. HMG CoA reductase activity was found to be enhanced, while activities of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and malate dehydrogenase were significantly reduced.

Plastid transformation in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.)
Transgenic Research, 2009We have developed a method for plastid transformation in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.), a solanaceous plant species. Plastid transformation in eggplant was achieved by bombardment of green stem segments with pPRV111A plastid expression vector carrying the aadA gene encoding aminoglycoside 3''-adenylyltransferase.

EMS-induced streptomycin resistance in Solanum melongena
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1993Streptomycin-resistant mutations were induced in Solanum melongena by exposing seeds to ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS). Seed mutagenesis resulted in a high frequency of chlorophyll-deficient mutations and a low frequency of resistant shoots, both of which retained their resistance on subsequent testing. Reciprocal crosses between streptomycin-resistant
