Higher and more stable biological control of multiple herbivore species in diversified strip cropping systems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 5, May 2026.
Our results highlight that strip cropping can enhance and stabilize biological control. Even simple two‐crop designs provide clear benefits over monocultures, while increasing crop diversity to six crops offers additional advantages. Because the temporal stability of biological control increases with crop diversity, designing strip cropping systems ...

Gap Analysis of Metabolic Conversions of Off‐Flavors and Antinutrients in Plant‐Based Substrates

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT To drastically reduce the carbon footprint of the food production chain, a major shift towards alternatives to conventional meat and dairy products is required. The use of plant‐based proteins is a promising route, but it also comes with challenges: Plant‐based proteins often contain antinutritional factors and off‐flavors, which can ...

Ustilago maydis Phosphatidic Acid and Phosphatidylserine‐Targeting Secreted Lipase Lip3 Is Involved in Pathogenesis

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 27, Issue 5, May 2026.
Ustilago maydis secreted lipase, Lip3 targets PA and PS and alkalinises the host apoplast, thus promoting virulence. Loss of Lip3 results in reduced apoplastic pH and decreased pathogenicity. ABSTRACT Lipases constitute important virulence factors. By targeting specific lipids involved in various cellular processes, lipases regulate growth, development,

Transcription Profiling of Potato Leaves in Response to Heat Stress at Single‐Cell Resolution

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 5, Page 2970-2987, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is a globally important food crop with considerable nutritional and economic value. Heat stress significantly inhibits potato plant growth and tuber development, constraining the sustainable development of the potato industry. Currently, studies on the cellular‐level mechanisms underlying heat adaptation in potato

Pollen viability and meiotic analysis of Solanum commersonii commersonii Dun., Solanum commersonii malmeanum Bitt. and Solanum tuberosum L.

open access: yesCrop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2007
Meiotic abnormalities in potato hamper sexual recombination, due to their influence on pollen production and viability rate. In this study we evaluated pollen viability and meiosis of three clones of Solanum commersonii commersonii Dun.

Mechanisms controlling the plasma membrane targeting and the nanodomain organization of the plant SPFH protein HIR2

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 126, Issue 3, May 2026.
SUMMARY Plasma membranes (PM) contain myriads of diverse nanodomains that correspond to nanometric scale structures enriched in specific lipids and proteins acting as signaling/regulation hubs involved in diverse biological processes. So far, how PM nanodomains are formed and maintained in plant cells remains largely unknown.

Early generation selection for tuber appearance affects potato yield components

open access: yesCrop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2006
The aim of this study was to verify the influence of selection for tuber appearance on potato yield components. A potato hybrid population composed of 20 clone families from the Embrapa Clima Temperado breeding program was evaluated.
