An Intense Geomagnetic Storm Originated from Stealth Coronal Mass Ejection: Remote and In Situ Observations by Near Radially Aligned Spacecraft

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We investigate the solar origin and heliospheric evolution of an intense geomagnetic storm that occurred on 2023 March 23–24. Despite multiple candidate coronal mass ejections (CMEs) observed between March 19 and 21, a weak CME detected on March 19 at 18:

Photonic‐Enabled Energy‐Efficient Transparent Neuromorphic Computing Devices: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Transparent photonic neuromorphic computing devices merge optics and brain‐inspired computing to overcome von Neumann bottlenecks with ultrafast, low‐energy processing. By exploiting transparent oxides, 2D materials, phase‐change materials, and hybrid heterostructures, these platforms enable photonic synapses, memory, and logic for see‐through edge ...

Reliability evaluation of III-V concentrator solar cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Concentrator solar cells have been proposed as an interesting way of reducing the cost of photovoltaic electricity. However, in order to compete with conventional solar modules it is necessary not only to reduce costs but also to evaluate and increase ...

Solar Cycle Variation of the Mass-loss Rate of Coronal Mass Ejections

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are known as the main drivers of the most severe space weather disturbances. Usually, the most severe geomagnetic storms are caused by massive and fast CMEs.

Probing Electrocatalyst Design for Product Selectivity in CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Selective CO2 electroreduction is controlled by catalyst structure, dynamic surface reconstruction, adsorbate interactions, and reaction microenvironment. This review summarizes Cu‐ and non‐Cu‐based catalysts, single‐atom and molecular systems, degradation pathways, and operando/computational strategies for steering CO2RR toward hydrocarbons ...

Covalently Integrated Selenoviologen–N‐Heterocyclic Carbene–Pt Nanoparticles for Visible‐Light‐Driven Hydrogen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A covalently integrated single‐component photocatalyst is constructed by anchoring selenoviologen to platinum nanoparticles via robust N‐heterocyclic carbene ligands. The resulting Pt─C covalent bonds function dually as protective structural scaffolds and direct channels for ultrafast intramolecular electron transfer This precise interfacial ...

Variations in the Inferred Cosmic-Ray Spectral Index as Measured by Neutron Monitors in Antarctica

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
A technique has recently been developed for tracking short-term spectral variations in Galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) using data from a single neutron monitor (NM), by collecting histograms of the time delay between successive neutron counts and extracting ...

High‐Power Hybrid Nanogenerator With Multi‐Degree‐of‐Freedom Mechanical Coupling for Harvesting Water Wave Energy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A high‐power hybrid nanogenerator (HP‐HNG) with multi‐degree‐of‐freedom mechanical coupling is reported, integrating multi‐directional wave energy for output to achieve 1 + 1 > 2 energy harvesting. The HP‐HNG achieves a peak output power of 0.764 W, corresponding to a peak power density of 127.303 W m−3. At a wave frequency of 1 Hz, the HP‐HNG delivers

The Influence of Different Phases of a Solar Flare on Changes in the Total Electron Content in the Earth’s Ionosphere

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Variations in X-ray and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) irradiance during solar flares lead to a noticeable increase in the electron concentration in the illuminated part of the Earth’s ionosphere.

Implications of the hydrodynamic analogue for the solar‐terrestrial interaction and the mapping of high latitude convection pattern into the magnetotail

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1984
In the past, attempts have been made to relate magnetospheric geometry to that expected for the hydrodynamic analogue involving high speed flow past an obstacle. For this analogue, the region behind the obstacle can be divided into two distinct regions ‐ a separation bubble immediately behind the obstacle and a laminar wake further downstream.
