Advances in Se Wide‐Bandgap Photovoltaics and TexSe1‐x SWIR Photodiodes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this review, fundamental properties and current challenges in Se photovoltaics (PVs) for tandem and indoor PVs and TexSe1‐x alloys for short wave infrared photodiodes are discussed. A case is made for the practicality of elemental chalcogenide optoelectronics, and a pathway toward resolving the key challenges in these respective technologies is ...

A Multimodal Encoder–Decoder Neural Network for Forecasting Solar Wind Speed at L1

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
The solar wind, accelerated within the solar corona, sculpts the heliosphere and continuously interacts with planetary atmospheres. On Earth, high-speed solar wind streams may lead to severe disruption of satellite operations and power grids.

Effects of a mid-latitude solar eclipse on the thermosphere and ionosphere - A modelling study [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
A modelling study is presented which investigates in-situ generated changes of the thermosphere and ionosphere during a solar eclipse. Neutral temperatures are expected to drop by up to 40 degrees K at 240 km height in the totality footprint, with ...

12 hr Forecast of the SYM-H Index under Strong Southward Interplanetary Magnetic Field Conditions Using Deep Learning

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
In this study, we propose a deep learning model to forecast the SYM-H index up to 12 hr ahead under strong southward interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) B _z conditions ( B _z ≤ −3 nT for at least 6 hr), which are well known as the main driver of ...

Effects of stratospheric ozone depletion, solar UV radiation, and climate change on biogeochemical cycling: interactions and feedbacks

open access: yesPhotochemical and Photobiological Sciences, 2014
Climate change modulates the effects of solar UV radiation on biogeochemical cycles in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, particularly for carbon cycling, resulting in UV-mediated positive or negative feedbacks on climate.

Breaking the Durability–Power Trade‐Off: Boron‐Directed Faceted O3 Cathodes for High‐Rate Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Boron‐oxide‐assisted particle engineering stabilizes O3‐type layered cathodes for sodium‐ion batteries by mitigating phase transitions and lattice strain. Acting as flux and structural modifier, boron forms submicron hexagonal platelets with (003) facets and expanded Na‐layer spacing, enabling rapid Na⁺ diffusion and mechanical resilience.

Exploring Solar-Terrestrial Interactions via Multiple Observers (A White Paper for the Voyage 2050 long-term plan in the ESA Science Programme)

open access: yes, 2019
This paper addresses the fundamental science question: "How does solar wind energy flow through the Earth's magnetosphere, how is it converted and distributed?". We need to understand how the Sun creates the heliosphere, and how the planets interact with the solar wind and its magnetic field, not just as a matter of scientific curiosity, but to address

MXene‐Derived Highly Oriented TiN Enables Ta3N5 Photoanodes for Transmission‐Mode Bias‐Free Solar Water Splitting

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This work reports 2D MXene‐derived TiN thin films with (111)‐preferred orientation for transparent Ta3N5 photoanodes, demonstrating effective electron transfer behavior. All‐nitride electron‐collection architecture based on MXene‐derived TiN and n‐GaN resolves a long‐standing materials bottleneck between photocarrier transport and light transmission in
