The correlation between solar and geomagnetic activity – Part 3: An integral response model [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2011
An integral response model is proposed to describe the relationship between geomagnetic activity (aa index) and solar activity (represented by sunspot number Rz): The aa at a given time t is the integral of Rz at past times (t'≤t) multiplied by ...

Electricity Generation From Ambient Water Evaporation in the Absence of Sunlight via PVA‐Based Porous Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, a water‐evaporation driven energy harvester is devised that works even in the absence of sunlight. This is achieved by combining PVA hydrogel with thermoelectrics (TEG) to directly capture energy from water evaporation. Under mild conditions (RH 40%, T of 26 °C, and 2.8 m s−1 wind), 1.71 mW (1.02 W m−2) power can be generated, >3 fold ...

A Deep Learning Approach for Removing Multi-Source Transient Interference in Satellite Magnetic Field Measurement

open access: yesSensors
Magnetic field measurements are essential for space science missions but are often contaminated by transient stray fields from spacecraft subsystems such as electrical and control units.

Unique Performance Considerations for Printable Organic Semiconductor and Perovskite Radiation Detectors: Toward Consensus on Best Practice Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A lack of standard approaches for testing and reporting the performance of metal halide perovskites and organic semiconductor radiation detectors has resulted in inconsistent interpretation of performance parameters, impeding progress in the field. This Perspective recommends key metrics and experimental details, which are suggested for reporting in ...

Extreme concentric gravity waves observed in the mesosphere and thermosphere regions over southern Brazil associated with fast-moving severe thunderstorms [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics
Three groups of intense concentric gravity waves (CGWs) lasting over 10 h were observed by an airglow imager at the Southern Space Observatory (SSO) in São Martinho da Serra (29.44° S, 53.82° W) in southern Brazil on 17–18 September 2023.

The correlation between solar and geomagnetic activity – Part 2: Long-term trends [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2011
Using lag-correlation function analysis, the correlation coefficient at zero lag (r0), the maximum (rm) and the corresponding lag time (Lm) between solar (Rz) and geomagnetic (aa) activity for a 528-month (44-year) running time window are shown to ...

An XMM-Newton observation of the young open cluster NGC 2547: coronal activity at 30 Myr

open access: yes, 2005
We report XMM-Newton observations of the young open cluster NGC 2547 which allow us to characterise coronal activity in solar-type stars at an age of 30 Myr. X-ray emission peaks among G-stars at luminosities (0.3-3keV) of Lx~10^{30.5} erg/s and declines

Ferrocene Derivatives Enable Ultrasensitive Perovskite Photodetectors with Enhanced Reverse Bias Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Novel ferrocene derivatives (e.g., FcPhc2) are used as an ultrathin layer hole‐blocking layer, reducing hole injection from the Ag contact. This results in an ultralow noise spectral density of 1.2 × 10−14 A Hz−1/2, and a high specific detectivity of 8.1 × 1012 Jones at −0.5 V.
