The statistical dependence of auroral absorption on geomagnetic and solar wind parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Data from the Imaging Riometer for Ionospheric Studies (IRIS) at Kilpisjärvi, Finland, have been compiled to form statistics of auroral absorption based on seven years of observations.

The Solar Orbiter Science Activity Plan [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2020
Solar Orbiter is the first space mission observing the solar plasma both in situ and remotely, from a close distance, in and out of the ecliptic. The ultimate goal is to understand how the Sun produces and controls the heliosphere, filling the Solar ...

The influence of solar wind variability on magnetospheric ULF wave power

open access: yes, 2015
Magnetospheric ultra-low frequency (ULF) oscillations in the Pc 4–5 frequency range play an important role in the dynamics of Earth's radiation belts, both by enhancing the radial diffusion through incoherent interactions and through the coherent drift ...

Encyclopedia of 2D β′‐In2Se3 Growth Using Chemical Vapor Deposition: The Effects of Synthesis Parameters Onto Material Quality

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A distinct semi‐confined inner‐tube chemical vapor deposition geometry enables reproducible, large‐area growth of phase‐pure 2D β′‐In2Se3 from InI + Se precursors. Engineering local vapor transport and optimizing precursor delivery and temperature–time conditions yield uniform continuous films.

Biomass Native Structure Into Functional Carbon‐Based Catalysts for Fenton‐Like Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study indicates that eight biomasses with 2D flaky and 1D acicular structures influence surface O types, morphology, defects, N doping, sp2 C, and Co nanoparticles loading in three series of carbon, N‐doped carbon, and cobalt/graphitic carbon. This work identifies how these structural factors impact catalytic pathways, enhancing selective electron

Statistics of counter-streaming solar wind suprathermal electrons at solar minimum : STEREO observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Previous work has shown that solar wind suprathermal electrons can display a number of features in terms of their anisotropy. Of importance is the occurrence of counter-streaming electron patterns, i.e., with "beams" both parallel and anti-parallel to ...

Forecasting of the Geomagnetic Activity for the Next 3 Days Utilizing Neural Networks Based on Parameters Related to Large‐Scale Structures of the Solar Corona

open access: yesSpace Weather
With the increasing number of large constellations, it is crucial to accurately predict satellite positions and movements using upper atmosphere models driven by geomagnetic indices. Machine learning (ML) can quickly provide geomagnetic index predictions.

Mask-Pix2Pix Network for Overexposure Region Recovery of Solar Image

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, 2019
Overexposure may happen for imaging of solar observation as extremely violet solar bursts occur, which means that signal intensity goes beyond the dynamic range of imaging system of a telescope, resulting in loss of signal.

A brief history of Regional Warning Center China (RWC-China) [PDF]

open access: yesHistory of Geo- and Space Sciences, 2018
Solar-terrestrial prediction services in China began in 1969 at the Beijing Astronomical Observatory (BAO), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). In 1990, BAO joined the International URSIgram and World Days Service (IUWDS) and started solar-terrestrial ...
