Abstract The performance of a solar heater depends on the losses from the collector surfaces. The losses through the bottom and sides of the heater may be reduced or almost eliminated by the use of adequate insulation. In an attempt to reduce the losses from the glass cover of the simple two-glass cover air heater, a unit was constructed in which ...

Solar air heaters with external recycle
Applied Thermal Engineering, 2009The effect of external recycle on the collector efficiency in solar air heaters has been investigated theoretically. The application of external-recycle operation to solar air heaters actually has two conflict effects. One is the desirable effect of increasing fluid velocity to decrease the heat transfer resistance.

Unglazed solar wall air heaters
Renewable Energy, 1994The new unglazed wall mounted solar air heating panels have become the preferred method of heating air using solar energy in cold climates. Since 1989 numerous systems have been installed on a wide range of applications and in several countries. Monitoring work under IEA Task 14 on a few of the solar wall heating systems has revealed interesting ...

Performance studies on solar air heaters
Solar Energy, 1967Abstract This paper reports an experimental study on the performance characteristics of four solar air heaters. Two were of a corrugated type and two were of a mesh type. All used ordinary black-painted surfaces. Instead of comparing the efficiencies at the same rate of discharge, the same amount of pumping power was employed so that the unequal ...

Efficiency of solar plate air heaters
Applied Solar Energy, 2008The efficiency of a solar air heating collector (SHC) has been investigated using a very simple nonstationary plate heating model. It is shown that the time to reach to the operating efficiency in the SHC is quite long. It is found that in the air heating temperature range 40–60 °C the stationary efficiencies of the SHC can be from 0.5 to 0.37.

Diurnal response of solar air heaters
Applied Energy, 1981Abstract A time-dependent heat transfer model has been developed to predict the diurnal performance of a conventional solar air heater which consists of a flat passage between two metallic plates through which the heating fluid (air) is made to pass. The effect of various parameters such as the heat capacities of the glass cover, the absorbing plate ...

Compact Solar Air Heater: A Review
2019In this review work, a theoretical study of solar air heater is carried out by considering compact heat exchanger criteria into account. The present investigation comprises different performance parameters for a compact solar air heater. In this review work, Reynolds number is the only variable parameter which varies from 4000 to 18000. Stanton number (

Simulation study of solar air heater
Solar Energy, 2003A mathematical model for predicting thermal efficiency, heat gain, and outlet air temperature of a covered plate attic solar collector under steady conditions was developed. The model presented in this paper utilizes the basic principles and relationships of heat transfer to simulate the behavior of the solar air heaters under various conditions.
