Boost converter fed high performance BLDC drive for solar PV array powered air cooling system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper proposes the utilization of a DC-DC boost converter as a mediator between a Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) array and the Voltage Source Inverters (VSI) in an SPV array powered air cooling system to attain maximum efficiency.

Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.

Effect of biochars on the immobilization and form of Cadmium (Cd) in simulated Cd deposition of iron rich soils

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Atmospheric deposition of Cd poses a serious threat to ecosystem security. Biochar is widely used for polluted soil remediation, however, whether biochar already applied to the soil can reduce the hazards of newly deposited Cd remains to be studied. Thus,

Experimental analysis of thermal storage tank configurationin a solar cooling installation with an absorption chiller [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The use of air conditioning systems in Spanish dwellings is gaining popularity, as the installed units grows by 0,8 million per year. The most popular air conditioning system today is the vapor-compression cycle.

Chandra observations of Abell 2199 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We present results from an analysis of two Chandra observations of the rich, nearby galaxy cluster Abell 2199. We find evidence (having corrected for projection effects) for radial gradients in temperature and metallicity in the X-ray emitting gas: the ...

Composites of Shellac and Silver Nanowires as Flexible, Biobased, and Corrosion‐Resistant Transparent Conductive Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Shellac, a centuries‐old natural resin, is reimagined as a green material for flexible electronics. When combined with silver nanowires, shellac films deliver transparency, conductivity, and stability against humidity. These results position shellac as a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for transparent conductors in next‐generation ...

Cool Kitchen: Processing Starch and Eggshell Powder into Sustainable Coatings for Passive Daytime Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A food‐grade cooling composite made from starch and recycled eggshell powder offers a scalable, ultra‐low‐cost solution for passive daytime radiative cooling. Easily prepared using basic kitchen tools, this material empowers communities, even in areas with limited infrastructure, to stay cooler during worsening summer heat waves.

From Single Atoms to Nanoparticles: Pathways Toward Efficient and Durable Pt/TiO2 Photocatalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Platinum single atoms on TiO2 nanosheets evolve into clusters and nanoparticles under ethanol photoreforming and thermal treatments. By controlling deposition and post‐treatments, particle size and location on specific facets are modulated. The study reveals how stability pathways determine efficiency, guiding the design of more durable photocatalysts.

Measuring Feedback in Damped Lyman Alpha Systems

open access: yes, 2001
We measure feedback (heating rates) in damped Lyman alpha systems from the cooling rate of the neutral gas. Since cooling occurs through [C II] 158 micron emission, we infer cooling from C II^{*} 1335.7 absorption lines detected with HIRES on the Keck I ...
