Coronal hole boundaries evolution at small scales: I. EIT 195 A and TRACE 171 A view
We aim at studying the small-scale evolution at the boundaries of an equatorial coronal hole connected with a channel of open magnetic flux with the polar region and an `isolated' one in the extreme-ultraviolet spectral range.

Self-organized braiding in solar coronal loops [PDF]
AbstractIn this paper, we investigate the evolution of braided solar coronal loops. We assume that coronal loops consist of several internal strands which twist and braid about each other. Reconnection between the strands leads to small flares and heating of the loop to x-ray temperatures.

Spaceborne and spaceborn: Physiological aspects of pregnancy and birth during interplanetary flight
Abstract Crewed interplanetary return missions that are on the planning horizon will take years, more than enough time for initiation and completion of a pregnancy. Pregnancy is viewed as a sequence of processes – fertilization, blastocyst formation, implantation, gastrulation, placentation, organogenesis, gross morphogenesis, birth and neonatal ...

Plasma injection into a solar coronal loop [PDF]
Context. The details of the spectral profiles of extreme UV emission lines from solar active regions contain key information for investigating the structure, dynamics, and energetics of the solar upper atmosphere. Aims. We characterize the line profiles not only through the Doppler shift and intensity of the bulk part of the profile.

Thread Separation and Expansion Observed in Multistranded Solar Coronal Loops
The theoretical expectation that coronal loops should expand with height contrasts with observations that typically show constant cross sections. We investigate the idea that this discrepancy results from loops being composed of fine threads whose ...

Abstract The May 2024 geomagnetic superstorm provided the opportunity to explore how strong wave‐particle interactions affect energetic electron precipitation under intense driving. Using coordinated measurements from a balloon‐borne Timepix‐based X‐ray detector, ground‐based riometers and magnetometers, and Arase satellite observations, we identified ...

Automated Detection of Coronal Loops using a Wavelet Transform Modulus Maxima Method
We propose and test a wavelet transform modulus maxima method for the au- tomated detection and extraction of coronal loops in extreme ultraviolet images of the solar corona.

Structure of solar coronal loops: from miniature to large-scale [PDF]
We will use new data from the High-resolution Coronal Imager (Hi-C) with unprecedented spatial resolution of the solar corona to investigate the structure of coronal loops down to 0.2 arcsec.

Kink Oscillations of Curved Arcade Loops with a Magnetic Shear
We considered the kink oscillations of coronal magnetic loops, which form a coronal loop arcade with a magnetic shear. In this structure, the magnetic field consists of helical lines.

Magneto-seismology of solar atmospheric loops by means of longitudinal oscillations
There is increasingly strong observational evidence that slow magnetoacoustic modes arise in the solar atmosphere. Solar magneto-seismology is a novel tool to derive otherwise directly un-measurable properties of the solar atmosphere when ...
