An eruptive prominence and coronal transient was observed in H-alpha, He II 304-A, and coronal white light (3700-7000 A). This event was generically similar to many other coronal transients associated with eruptive prominences in that loops of material propagated outward through the corona.

A novel code for numerical 3-D MHD studies of CME expansion [PDF]
A recent third-order, essentially non-oscillatory central scheme to advance the equations of single-fluid magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) in time has been implemented into a new numerical code.

The Stationary Point: A New Method for Solar Wind Speed Measurements from a Moving Vantage Point
The WISPR imager on Parker Solar Probe (PSP) provides a unique view of the young solar wind as it flies through solar wind structures at high speed. It is of interest to use WISPR image sequences to measure the velocity of both large features (such as ...

Interplanetary Signatures during the 1972 Early August Solar Storms
In 1972, early August, a series of interplanetary shocks were observed in the heliosphere from 0.8 to 2.2 au. These shocks were attributed to a series of brilliant flares and plasma clouds since at that time coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and their ...

The forecasting of intense geomagnetic storms
Intense geomagnetic storms are produced by the arrival at the magnetopause of solar wind carrying a magnetic field with a large southward component lasting for several hours. Solar and interplanetary processes have been considered to explain the presence

A spherically symmetric adiabatic single-fluid model is outlined for simulating the nonlinear time-dependent response of the corona to solar events that are simulated by perturbations in the appropriate physical variables from their steady-state values at the coronal base.

Connecting the Small Solar Wind Transients Observed Remotely to Their In Situ Measurement near 1 au
Based on the two-vantage observations by the COR2 coronagraphs on board the two STEREO spacecraft between 2010 January 1 and 2010 July 15, we reconstruct the three-dimensional (3D) structures of small solar wind transients in the extended corona and ...

Multiple Episodes of Remote Brightenings Driven by a Coronal Extreme-ultraviolet Jet on the Sun
Remote brightening (RB) is compact brightening at footpoints of magnetic loops, which are remotely connecting to and confining an eruption in the solar atmosphere.

Oscillatory reconnection is a specific type of time-dependent reconnection which involves periodic changes in the magnetic topology of a null point. The mechanism has been reported for a variety of magnetic field strengths and configurations, background ...

The Periodicity of Three-dimensional Oscillatory Reconnection
Oscillatory reconnection is a dynamic, magnetic relaxation mechanism in which a perturbed null point reverts to equilibrium via time-dependent reconnection. In this paper, we investigate the long-term periodic signal generated by a 3D magnetic null point
