Solar flares at submillimeter wavelengths [PDF]
We discuss the implications of the first systematic observations of solar flares at submillimeter wavelengths, defined here as observing wavelengths shorter than 3 mm (frequencies higher than 0.1 THz). The events observed thus far show that this wave band requires a new understanding of high-energy processes in solar flares.

AbstractThere are many types of solar flare, but the classic type is a two-ribbon flare with three phases — a preflare phase, a rise phase and a main phase. The properties of these phases are described, together with some recent observational advances in understanding the conditions for solar flares.

Diagnostics of solar flare reconnection [PDF]
Abstract. We present new diagnostics of the solar flare reconnection, mainly based on the plasma radio emission. We propose that the high-frequency (600-2000 MHz) slowly drifting pulsating structures map the flare magnetic field reconnection. These structures correspond to the radio emission from plasmoids which are formed in the extended current sheet

Solar Radio Bursts with Spectral Fine Structures in Preflares [PDF]
A good observation of preflare activities is important for us to understand the origin and triggering mechanism of solar flares, and to predict the occurrence of solar flares.

Measuring X-ray anisotropy in solar flares. Prospective stereoscopic capabilities of STIX and MiSolFA [PDF]
During the next solar maximum, two upcoming space-borne X-ray missions, STIX on board Solar Orbiter and MiSolFA, will perform stereoscopic X-ray observations of solar flares at two different locations: STIX at 0.28 AU (at perihelion) and up to ...

Estimating the frequency of extremely energetic solar events, based on solar, stellar, lunar, and terrestrial records [PDF]
The most powerful explosions on the Sun [...] drive the most severe space-weather storms. Proxy records of flare energies based on SEPs in principle may offer the longest time base to study infrequent large events.

The Solar Flare Complex Network [PDF]
Abstract We investigate the characteristics of the solar flare complex network. The limited predictability, nonlinearity, and self-organized criticality of the flares allow us to study systems of flares in the field of the complex systems.

Chromospheric Bubbles in Solar Flares [PDF]
Abstract We analyze a grid of radiative hydrodynamic simulations of solar flares to study the energy balance and response of the atmosphere to nonthermal electron beam heating. The appearance of chromospheric bubbles is one of the most notable features that we find in the simulations.
