The PAC2MAN mission: a new tool to understand and predict solar energetic events

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate, 2015
An accurate forecast of flare and coronal mass ejection (CME) initiation requires precise measurements of the magnetic energy buildup and release in the active regions of the solar atmosphere.

Plasmonic Enhancement of Fluorescence and Protein Dynamics in Living Mammalian Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates plasmonic enhancement of the function of fluorescent voltage sensing proteins (genetically encoded voltage indicators, (GEVIs), QuasAr6) in live mammalian cells. Coupling to plasmonic nanoparticles does not just increase fluorescence, but influences the protein photocycle, creating a hybrid sensor with its response speed to ...

Recovering Ion Distribution Functions. II. Gyrotropic Slepian Reconstruction of Solar Wind Electrostatic Analyzer Measurements

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Velocity distribution functions (VDFs) are an essential observable for studying kinetic and wave–particle processes in solar wind plasmas. To experimentally distinguish modes of heating, acceleration, and turbulence in the solar wind, precise ...

Deciphering Solar Magnetic Activity: Spotting Solar Cycle 25

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2017
We present observational signatures of solar cycle 25 onset. Those signatures are visibly following a migratory path from high to low latitudes. They had starting points that are asymmetrically offset in each hemisphere at times that are 21–22 years ...

Pixel-to-pixel Translation of Solar Extreme-ultraviolet Images for DEMs by Fully Connected Networks

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2023
In this study, we suggest a pixel-to-pixel image translation method among similar types of filtergrams such as solar extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) images. For this, we consider a deep-learning model based on a fully connected network in which all pixels of ...

Transient Charging of Mixed Ionic‐Electronic Conductors by Anomalous Diffusion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This article explores charge transport in mixed ionic‐electronic conductors (MIECs) through electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and transient current analysis. Focusing on PEDOT:PSS, WO3, and n‐doped PBDF, it uncovers the impact of anomalous diffusion via fractional modeling. The study reveals key correlations that deepen understanding and guide the

Recovering Ion Distribution Functions. I. Slepian Reconstruction of Velocity Distribution Functions from MMS and Solar Orbiter

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Plasma velocity distribution functions (VDFs) constitute a fundamental observation of numerous operational and future missions. An efficient parameterization of VDFs is crucial for (1) preserving enough information to investigate macroscopic moments ...

A Functional 2D Carbon Allotrope Combining Nanoporous Graphene and Biphenylene Segments

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis of a novel nanoporous graphene (NPG) is reported with biphenylene segments via thermal fusion of 12‐armchair porous graphene nanoribbons grown on gold surfaces. Characterization using STM, AFM, and DFT reveals low‐defect semiconducting behaviour and tunable band gaps.
