Solar spectral irradiance and total solar irradiance at a solar minimum

Geomagnetism and Aeronomy, 2014
Results are presented for a wavelet analysis of solar spectral irradiance (SSI) in the ultraviolet to infrared range and total solar irradiance (TSI). The study is based on data collected by the Solar Radiation and Climate Experiment (SORCE) satellite from March 10, 2007 to January 23, 2010. Cross-wavelet analysis finds relationships of varying degrees

Reconstruction of Past Solar Irradiance

Space Science Reviews, 2000
Accurate measurements of solar irradiance started in 1978, but a much longer time series is needed in order to uncover a possible influence on the Earth's climate. In order to reconstruct the irradiance prior to 1978 we require both an understanding of the underlying causes of solar irradiance variability as well as data describing the state of the Sun

Clustering of Solar Irradiance

2015
The development of grid-connected photovoltaic power systems leads to new challenges. The short or medium term prediction of the solar irradiance is definitively a solution to reduce the storage capacities and, as a result, authorizes to increase the penetration of the photovoltaic units on the power grid.

Solar Noise Simulations in Irradiance

Solar Physics, 1994
The global signature of granulation, meso- and supergranulation is calculated using values for intensities and lifetimes from spatially resolved observations. These simulations are compared with observations from ACRIM, IPHIR and the SOVA-1 photometers.

Observations of Solar Irradiance Variability

Science, 1981
High-precision measurements of total solar irradiance, made by the active cavity radiometer irradiance monitor on the Solar Maximum Mission satellite, show the irradiance to have been variable throughout the first 153 days of observations.

On predictability of solar irradiance

Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy, 2021
Fair forecast comparisons are exceedingly rare in the literature of solar forecasting. Since many published works have been operating under the condition “the proposed methods outperform the benchmarks,” it is unlikely that the actual advancement in solar forecasting science is indeed successive in that the latter works supersede the former. It follows

Solar irradiance reference spectra

2004
The solar spectrum is a key input for the study of the planetary atmospheres. It allows the understanding through theoretical modeling of the atmospheric properties (e.g., composition and variability). Furthermore, a reference model is useful for the preparation of instruments and platforms to be operated in space.

Solar Irradiation Fundamentals and Solar Simulators

2020
This chapter is prepared for introduction to solar radiation and solar simulators, which are widely used photovoltaic researches. In this study, the fundamentals of solar radiation and the components of solar radiation in the atmosphere are briefly expressed. Besides, solar simulators used in PV tests are emphasized, classification of solar simulators,

Theory of Solar Irradiance Variations

Space Science Reviews, 2000
The theory of stellar structure can be used to identify the most plausible mechanisms for the irradiance variations associated with the solar cycle. Changes in surface emissivity, i.e. the reduced cooling in spots and enhanced emission by small scale magnetic fields, are the most effective mechanisms and account for most of the observed variation.
