Cloud tracking for solar irradiance prediction
2017 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2017We propose a video analytic system to segment and track clouds for the purpose of solar irradiance prediction. Ground-based imaging sensors are used to monitor potential sun occlusions for solar irradiance drop prediction, which can be used to assist power ramp control strategies. Sky images are first rectified to remove fisheye artifacts. Cloud pixels

Data on total and spectral solar irradiance
Applied Optics, 1983This paper presents a brief survey of the data available on solar constant and extraterrestrial solar spectral irradiance. The spectral distribution of solar radiation at ground surface, computed from extraterrestrial solar spectral irradiance for several air mass values and for four levels of atmospheric pollution, is also presented.

Multivariate regression for prediction of solar irradiance
2014 International Conference on Data Science & Engineering (ICDSE), 2014This paper describes regression models to forecast solar irradiance for a short term (or period). The regression models enable the prediction of solar irradiance in minute values over a period of a few days. A single variate regression model is used and various plots obtained between solar irradiance as dependent variable and air temperature and ...

The desire to detect possible variations of the total solar irradiance (TSI), the total amount of power supplied to the Earth from the Sun by radiative means, has been a goal for more than a century. Interest in this quantity arose from a realization that it is a determining factor of the Earth’s climate.

Since solar irradiance is not constant, it has become a topic of constant attention. The Sun is variable and its variability is better grasped when accounted by time series of scalar values. Among those, the Total Solar Irradiance holds a special status given its chief relevance to both solar physics and to solar forcing in the heliosphere.

A One-Solar-Constant Irradiance Standard
Applied Optics, 1970A new high-intensity standard of total and spectral irradiance has been developed recently at the National Bureau of Standards. The standard consists of a 1000-W tungsten-halogen lamp mounted in a ceramic reflector, the reflecting surface of which is coated with flame-sprayed Al(2)O(3).

The importance of the reliable solar spectral irradiance (SSI) data for solar and climate physics is now well acknowledged. In particular, the irradiance time series are necessary for most of the current studies concerning climate evolution. However, space instruments are vulnerable to the degradation due to the environment while ground based ...
