Interpreting Helioseismic Structure Inversion Results of Solar Active Regions

open access: yes, 2008
Helioseismic techniques such as ring-diagram analysis have often been used to determine the subsurface structural differences between solar active and quiet regions.

High‐Concentration Mesogen‐Assisted Exfoliation of Low‐Dimensional Nanomaterials for Achieving Ultralow‐Temperature Actuations of Liquid Crystal Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Most matter is nominally frozen in the polar regions or space, and liquid crystal materials are no exception. Consequently, soft actuators, including liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs), are inoperative under such extreme cold in response to stimuli, as their motion relies on mechanical deformation.

Simplified Model of the Solar Magnetic Field

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
This paper considers a structure consisting of two rings of magnetic dipoles symmetrical relative to the equatorial plane as a possible model for the source of the solar magnetic field.

Positive‐Tone Nanolithography of Antimony Trisulfide with Femtosecond Laser Wet‐Etching

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A butyldithiocarbamic acid (BDCA) etchant is used to fabricate various micro‐ and nanoscale structures on amorphous antimony trisulfide (a‐Sb2S3) thin film via femtosecond laser etching. Numerical analysis and experimental results elucidate the patterning mechanism on gold (reflective) and quartz (transmissive) substrates.

Flux-dominated solar dynamo model with a thin shear layer

open access: yes, 2007
Flux-dominated solar dynamo models have demonstrated to reproduce the main features of the large scale solar magnetic cycle, however the use of a solar like differential rotation profile implies in the the formation of strong toroidal magnetic fields at ...

Tunable Coordination Number in Non‐Metal‐Introduced Copper Catalysts Enables High‐Performance Electrochemical CO2 Reduction to C2 Products

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Copper catalysts introduced with different non‐metallic elements regulating the coordination number of Cu are prepared by magnetron sputtering. Reducing the Cu coordination number enhances C─C coupling and boosts C2+ product selectivity, by lowering the energy barrier for the *CO → *CHO conversion step. The optimized Si‐doped Cu catalyst achieves a C2+

Inner-heliospheric Signatures of Steadily Declining Solar Magnetic Fields and Their Possible Implications

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We examined solar photospheric magnetic fields for the solar cycles 21–25, covering the period 1975–2024. The unsigned photospheric magnetic fields at low latitudes (0°–45°), known as solar toroidal fields, showed a solar cycle variation with the total ...

Perturbazioni geomagnetiche, aurorali, ionosferiche e dei raggi cosmici : interdipendenze e relazioni con l'attività solare

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 1966
Existence of interplanetary magnetic fields other than
the geomagnetic field is now well established. They travel as frozen-in
fields inside the solar plasma clouds: magnetic fields on the Sun are then
discussed ...

Ion‐Selective Microporous Membranes via One‐Step Copolymerization Enable High‐Performance Redox Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable one‐step copolymerization strategy is developed to produce low‐cost microporous ion exchange membranes that boost both the efficiency and lifespan of flow batteries. When combined with organic electrolytes in aqueous systems, these membranes enable safe and cheap flow battery energy storage, supporting the widespread integration of renewable

The Evolution of Photospheric Magnetic Fields at the Footpoints of Reconnected Structures in the Solar Atmosphere

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Magnetic reconnection is believed to play an important role in the release and conversion of energy among magnetized plasma systems. So far, we have been unable to understand under what conditions magnetic reconnection can take place.
