Solar neutrinos and solar oscillations

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Physical and Engineering Sciences, 1994
For solar neutrino measurements to contribute directly to particle physics it is essential that we know the structure of the Sun. Only then can we be sure both of the conditions under which the neutrinos are produced and of the state of the material through which they must pass before arriving at the detectors on Earth. Solar oscillations play at least

Solar oscillations, stellar oscillations and cosmology

Nature, 1980
Two implications of the recent observations1 of low angular, high radial overtones of the whole Sun are reported here. The first implication is that other main sequence stars are likely to be oscillating in similar modes and that precision spectroscopy as well as photometry from space is capable of detecting these oscillations, thereby extending ...

Interference in solar oscillations

Solar Physics, 1971
We have analyzed magnetograph observations of the 5-min oscillations. We find that most of the oscillatory power is concentrated in space and frequency. Interference effects where these concentrations overlap can explain some of the variations in amplitude of the oscillation.

Solar magneto-atmospheric oscillations

2017
Estimates of wave energy fluxes in the solar photosphere and chromosphere suggest that gravity waves carry more energy than co-spatial acoustic waves. This work presents an exploration of the upward propagation of gravity waves from the photosphere to the chromosphere, in a realistic model of the solar atmosphere.

Properties of Solar Oscillations

1986
Many of the oscillations that can be observed in the atmosphere of the Sun are resonant acoustic or gravity modes of the interior. Accurate measurement of the frequencies of these p and g modes permits deductions about the internal structure and dynamics of this star.
