Solar Particle Emission

Special Publications, 2013
A variety of flare-associated and recurrent solar particle events are analyzed using the technique of 'mapping' the fluxes back to the estimated high coronal longitude of the interplanetary field line passing through the spacecraft. Often it is possible to separate temporal from spatial effects as well as those of coronal and interplanetary propagation.

Solar flare gamma‐ray emission and energetic particles in space

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1996
We expand Reames’ tabular summary of the two‐class picture of solar energetic particle (SEP) events to include characteristics of the particles that interact at the Sun to produce gamma‐ray emission. This addition underscores the contributions of gamma‐ray observations to our current understanding.

Acceleration of particles by an ensemble of shock waves and high energy emission of solar flares

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1992
An analysis of observational data on X‐ and gamma‐emission and energetic particles from impulsive solar flares shows that particles are accelerated over a few seconds in a region where matter density ∼1011 cm−3 and magnetic field ≳300 G. We take the June 21 1980 flare as an example of an impulsive flare.

Particle-in-cell simulation of plasma emission in solar radio bursts

Astronomy & Astrophysics, 2021
Aims. The present study aims to shed light on our understanding of the radiation processes of solar radio bursts associated with nonthermal electron propagation in the corona and interplanetary space. Methods. We performed 2.5-dimensional particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations to investigate the plasma emission excited by a relativistic electron beam using

Type II Radio Emission and Solar Energetic Particle Events

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2008
Type II radio bursts, solar energetic particle (SEP) events, and interplanetary (IP) shocks all have a common cause, viz., fast and wide (speed ⩾900 km/s and width ⩾60°)) coronal mass ejections (CMEs). Deviations from this general picture are observed as (i) lack of type II bursts during many fast and wide CMEs and IP shocks, (ii) slow CMEs associated ...
