Curvature effects on liquid–solid contact electrification

Nano Energy, 2021
Abstract The generation of triboelectric charges between two pieces of chemically identical materials has been researched systematically, implying that the charges were a consequence of the surface curvature at the macroscale level. However, there is still a lack of research on how nanoscale curvature affects triboelectric charges, which is of great ...

Gas‐solid contact in fluidized beds

AIChE Journal, 1955
AbstractAccording to the concept of two‐phase fluidization, a part of the gas in a fluidized reactor passes through the uniform dispersed solid‐gas phase in the form of bubbles, channels, and slugs. Material transport by mixing or diffusion takes place at the phase boundaries.

Measurement of liquid-solid contact in boiling

Journal of Physics E: Scientific Instruments, 1986
A new method of measuring contact in boiling is described. This involves coating the surface with a thin electrically insulating layer. The impedance measured through this layer, between the metal substrate and the boiling liquid, is related to the average fraction of the heat transfer area that is wetted by the liquid.

Equilibration Time of Solid Contact Ion-Selective Electrodes

Analytical Chemistry, 2015
Papers published on ion-selective electrodes (ISEs) generally report on the performance characteristics of these devices after long, extensive conditioning. Conditioning refers to the equilibration of the ion-selective electrode in an aqueous solution before the measurement of the sample.

Effect of liquid-solid contact angle on droplet evaporation

Fire Safety Journal, 1996
The effect of varying initial liquid-solid contact angle on the evaporation of single droplets of water deposited on a stainless steel surface is studied using both experiments and numerical modeling. Contact angle is controlled in experiments by adding varying amounts] (100 and 1000 ppm) of a surfactant to water.

Upflow Solids Contact Basin

Journal of the Sanitary Engineering Division, 1961
Principles of separation of solids from water by addition of chemicals are explained; as example, basin of Bacchus Marsh, Australia for lime-soda process is given; feature of basin is new slurry weir, for transferring old solids from top of slurry pool to concentrator at same rate as new ones are formed at bottom of slurry pool; calculations on ...

Role of Bioflocculation on Chemical Oxygen Demand Removal in Solids Contact Chamber of Trickling Filter/Solids Contact Process

Journal of Environmental Engineering, 2004
The trickling filter/solids contact ~TF/SC! process was developed in the late 1970s to improve the quality of the final effluent from existing trickling filter plants, to be able to meet stricter Environmental Protection Agency effluent requirements. Although this process has successfully achieved this objective, it is still not completely understood ...

Solids Concentration and Performance of Solids Contact Softeners

Journal AWWA, 1968
This article reports on the results obtained in full‐scale parallel operation at the University of Iowa of two solids contact units at various concentrations of solids. This unit was designed for light turbidity and algae removal, lime‐soda softening, and industrial waste treatment.

Measurement of liquid-solid contact in film boiling

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1992
Abstract An experimental study is conducted to measure liquid-solid (L-S) contacts in film boiling of water under atmospheric pressure. The test specimens selected for the present experiments are a silver sphere (30 mm in diameter) and two kinds of silver cylinders (20 mm in diameter and 60 mm long).

Direct Solid Contact in Reference Electrodes

2013
As a part of the electrodes used in galvanic cells, the role of direct (internal) contact is to facilitate communication between the meter and the electrochemical cell. This is usually solid contact (SC) and is referred to by names such as solid contact ion-selective electrodes (SC ISEs) or solid contact reference electrodes (SC REs).
