Solid state detectors [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2010
Solid state detectors play a fundamental role in particle physics providing precision vertex detection, identification of heavy quarks and leptons, and momentum measurement. The status of the LHC experiments will be reviewed including their performance and the lesson that we have learned from their construction.

Plasmon Effects in Solid-State Radiation Detectors [PDF]

open access: yesEurophysics Letters (EPL), 1993
We have examined the role of plasmons on the electron energy response of solid-state (Si and Ge) radiation detectors. We found that at the level of parts per thousand, internal-conversion electron calibration techniques do not suffice to yield an adequate response function.

APPLICATION OF SOLID-STATE TRACK DETECTORS FOR MEASUREMENT OF THE LOW-LEVEL ACTIVITY OF ALPHA-EMITTERS [PDF]

open access: yesРадиационная гигиена, 2016
Alpha spectrometry approach using solid state nuclear track detectors  of CR-39 type is considered within the energy range 4-6 MeV. Experimental information obtaining stages are described from solid state nuclear track detectors  irradiation procedure to

Solid-state light-phase detector [PDF]

open access: yesNature Photonics, 2014
A solid-state device is demonstrated that can detect the absolute offset between the carrier wave and envelope of an ultrashort pulse, the carrier–envelope phase. It holds promise for routine measurement and monitoring of the carrier–envelope phase in attosecond experimental set-ups.

New Projections for Dark Matter Searches with Paleo-Detectors

open access: yesInstruments, 2021
Paleo-detectors are a proposed experimental technique to search for dark matter (DM). In lieu of the conventional approach of operating a tonne-scale real-time detector to search for DM-induced nuclear recoils, paleo-detectors take advantage of small ...

Energy Response of Silicon Drift Detectors for Kaonic Atom Precision Measurements

open access: yesCondensed Matter, 2019
Novel, large-area silicon drift detectors (SDDs) have been developed to perform precision measurements of kaonic atom X-ray spectroscopy, for the study the K ¯ N strong interaction in the low-energy regime.

Solid immersion lens applications for nanophotonic devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Solid immersion lens (SIL) microscopy combines the advantages of conventional microscopy with those of near-field techniques, and is being increasingly adopted across a diverse range of technologies and applications. A comprehensive overview of the state-

A computer program TRACK_P for studying proton tracks in PADC detectors

open access: yesSoftwareX, 2016
A computer program for studying proton tracks in solid state nuclear track detectors was developed and described in this paper. The program was written in Fortran 90, with an additional tool for visualizing the track appearance as seen under the optical ...
