Diffusion-controlled grain growth in two-phase solids
Acta Materialia, 1997Abstract Microstructural evolution and the kinetics of grain growth in volume-conserved two-phase solids were investigated using two-dimensional (2-D) computer simulations based on a diffuse-interface field model. In this model, a two-phase microstructure is described by non-conserved field variables which represent crystallographic orientations of ...

Computational Materials Science, 2011
A fully implicit two-dimensional moving-mesh finite element simulation model was developed to study the influence of grain boundaries in polycrystalline solids on diffusion-controlled liquid–solid transition during transient liquid phase (TLP) bonding. The new model, which was developed without the non-trivial symmetry assumption in existing numerical ...

Segregation-controlled kinetics of fast impurity diffusion in polycrystalline solids
Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 1996Commonly, the presence of grain boundaries in crystalline solids leads to enhanced atomic transport because atoms can move faster along such two-dimensional lattice defects than through the lattice itself. Recent experiments on gold diffusion into silicon, however, showed for the first time a retardation of the metallic impurity incorporation in ...

Gas-diffusion-controlled solid-electrolyte oxygen sensors
Solid State Ionics, 1982The solid-state electrochemical cell O2,Pt/ZrO2(Y2O3)/Pt,O2 was provided with a diffusion barrier of a porous material on the cathode side. On polarisation, limiting currents could be measured which depended linearly on the oxygen concentration. The type of diffusion in the applied diffusion barrier determined the pressure and temperature dependence of

Theory of diffusion-controlled colloid formation in irradiated solids
Solid State Ionics, 1997Abstract The kinetics of diffusion-controlled aggregation of Frenkel defects (interstitial atoms and vacancies) under irradiation of solids is studied on a microscopic level. The theory is based on the discrete-lattice formalism for the single defect densities (concentrations) and coupled joint densities of similar and dissimilar defects treated in ...

The instability of the diffusion-controlled grain-boundary void in stressed solid
Acta Mechanica Sinica, 2003As atoms migrate along a void surface and grain-boundary, driven by various thermodynamic forces, the grain-boundary void changes its shape and volume. When the void changes its configuration, the free energy of the system also changes. In this article, the free energy is calculated for an evolving grain-boundary void filled with gas in a stressed ...

Electron beam induced diffusion controlled reaction in solids
Solid State Ionics, 1997In the work presented here the influence of powerful electron beam irradiation on the process of high-temperature mass transfer in solids has been studied. A comparative analysis of diffusion coefficients in a number of chemical systems with ionic chemical bonding is given.

The diffusion-controlled growth of solid solution scales on binary alloys
Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1977Abstract A detailed examination is made of the equations originally developed by Wagner (1969), and subsequently modified by other workers, which describe the growth of solid solution scales by cation diffusion on binary alloys. By reference to finite difference solutions of the relevant differential equations, it is demonstrated that

Potentiostatically controlled transient diffusion on solid electrodes with rough surface
Collection of Czechoslovak Chemical Communications, 1987Transient limiting diffusion currents were measured under potentiostatic conditions on several platinum electrodes for various solutions of sucrose with profoundly different diffusivities of a depolarizer. Systematic increase of the current densities against a Cottrellian (penetration) asymptote is correlated with parameters of roughness description.
