Erosion of granular sediments by submerged impinging jets: Particle size effects and cohesion onset
Abstract This study investigates the erosion behavior and modeling of glass particle beds under impinging jet conditions, with a focus on particle size effects and the onset of cohesion. Ultrasonic profiling is implemented to scan and measure static crater profiles.

Non‐negative Gaussian estimation of variance components in random effects models
Abstract When used to estimate variance components (VCs), confidence intervals (CIs) can be truncated at zero, have a point estimate not in the quoted CI, be empty with positive probability, or be all‐inclusive. This is because they have conflicting dual roles, since they are considered to cover the parameter with a specified probability while also ...

ABSTRACT Copper (Cu) and copper‐based alloys are indispensable in high‐heat‐flux systems, such as aerospace propulsion, fusion reactors, and advanced power electronics, due to their high thermal conductivity and good manufacturability. However, extreme service conditions increasingly demand not only high thermal conductivity but also elevated ...

Numerical simulation study of aluminum particle evaporation combustion process based on SPH method
A large variety of metal fuels is usually added to the modern solid rocket propellants to improve the propellant energy and motor specific impulse and to suppress high frequency unstable combustion. Among them, aluminum is the most common additive.

Kinetic Compensation of Barrel Launch Under High‐Speed Solid‐Phase Particulate Impacts
ABSTRACT An accurate launch‐dynamics computational method is critical for barrel weapon service life assessment and multiphase physics field refinement. Given the lack of studies on the solid‐phase buildup behavior at the projectile base, this paper provides an improved method for calculating the launching dynamics under high pressure and high speed ...

This study presents an alternative method to manufacture polymer‐bonded explosives by partially curing an HTPB‐based molding powder prior to compaction. The study shows that the length of partial cure time before compaction directly influenced the geometric fidelity, homogeneity, compressive strength, density, and internal microstructure.
