Characterization of Ultrafast Decomposition Dynamics in Nitrate Esters
ABSTRACT Ignition of energetic materials initiates chemical reactions on atomic length scales within femtoseconds, making these reactions difficult to investigate experimentally. The technique of femtosecond time‐resolved mass spectrometry (FTRMS) can capture molecular rearrangement and bond‐breaking events in isolated molecules with sub‐50 femtosecond

The response of graphene and MoS2 monolayers to highly‐charged impinging ions is investigated using nonequilibrium Green functions theory. Electronic correlations are found to have a significantly stronger influence on the ultrafast ion‐induced electron dynamics in MoS2 than in graphene.

Analytical investigation of solid rocket nozzle failure [PDF]
On April 5, 1983, an Inertial Upper Stage (IUS) spacecraft experienced loss of control during the burn of the second of two solid rocket motors. The anomaly investigation showed the cause to be a malfunction of the solid rocket motor. This paper presents

A one‐step oblique angle reactive sputtering approach enables simultaneous tuning of bulk and interfacial stoichiometry in a metal oxide/ silicon heterojunction. In case of vanadium oxides, growth angle variation controls the formation of stoichiometric SiO2, ternary SiOx(V) interlayer, and phase purity of vanadium oxide, considerably simplifying the ...

Cold spray deposition of stainless steel (grade: SS304) is evaluated for marine applications, with emphasis on martensitic transformation during impact. Analytical modeling, simulations, and experiments reveal that helium‐assisted spraying of fine powders promotes cooling below the martensitic start temperature, enabling up to ≈40% austenite to ...

Solving an irregular burning problem in a small rocket motor [PDF]
During the design and development of a solid rocket motor, intensive irregular burning appeared in the area of high initial temperatures. The cylindrical propellant grain was designed for approximately neutral burning, with a hollow tube and both burning
