Abstract Recent work on rechargeable, all-solid-state alkali-metal batteries has advanced the technology to a point where applications through the whole battery product range can be envisaged. From electric vehicle traction batteries, through rechargeable batteries for consumer appliances and power tools, down to miniature rechargeable cells on ...

Rechargeable Na-ion batteries (NIBs) are attractive large-scale energy storage systems compared to Li-ion batteries due to the substantial reserve and low cost of sodium resources. The recent rapid development of NIBs will no doubt accelerate the commercialization process.

Polyacetylene Solid‐State Batteries
Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 1985The present report summarizes the performances of the solid-state batteries using a superionic conductor as solid electrolyte and polyacetylene as electrode material. Two types of cells have been tested. A first class uses the mixed ionic solid RbAg/sub 4/I/sub 5/ together with a silver anode. The second one uses ..beta..

Solid state batteries using vitreous solid electrolytes
Solid State Ionics, 1986Abstract Solid state cells of the configuration Li/2.5LiI·Li 4 P 2 S 7 /TiS 2 have been constructed and tested between -40°C and +150°C. Continuous discharge current density capabilities range from 2μA/cm 2 at low temperature to >800μA/cm 2 at high temperature.

Significant resources have been devoted to the investigation of solid electrolytes since the early 1960s with the beta-aluminas having had the most monetary resources expended in R&D of any solid electrolyte. The only solid state cell which has achieved commercial success is the Li/I2 cell and it is probably not truly solid state [1].

Novel solid state polymeric batteries
Solid State Ionics, 1986Abstract AC conductivity measurements have been performed on a number of polymeric electrolytes containing Mg, Ca, Sr and Zn perchlorates and Mg and Ca thiocyanates. The electrolytes were characterised using DSC. Results are reported of preliminary tests of cells incorporating anodes of the above metals.

In common with most other batteries, solid state batteries have solid electrodes. The distinction is that whereas the majority of batteries utilize a liquid electrolyte, the solid state battery must incorporate a solid, ionically conducting phase as the electrolyte. Solid state batteries have been the subject of recent review articles (1, 2).
