Systematic chromosomal studies in solid tumors have been scanty (excepting meningiomas), because of the fact that it is difficult to obtain tumor material at desired times and only in about 10--15% of the cases adequate chromosome preparations are suitable with a direct technique or short term culture.

In the majority of solid malignant tumors, chemotherapy and hormonal therapy are only palliative. Nonetheless, drugs or hormones can bring worthwhile subjective and objective improvement. Every patient with a recurrent malignant process should be considered for chemotherapy, but strict guidelines must be followed in selection of patients.

Tumor Lysis Syndrome in Solid Tumors
Supportive Cancer Therapy, 2005Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) consists of acute hyperuricemic nephropathy, hyperphosphatemia, hypocalcemia, hyperkalemia, and increased serum creatinine. It can be part of the disease presentation, especially in aggressive hematologic malignancies, or a part of the chemotherapy response. There are relatively few reports of TLS in solid tumors.
