Solving bi-directional soliton equations in the KP hierarchy by gauge transformation [PDF]
We present a systematic way to construct solutions of the (n = 5)-reduction of the BKP and CKP hierarchies from the general τ function τn+k of the KP hierarchy.

Broadband Parametric Amplification in AlGaAs‐on‐Insulator Nanowaveguides
Harnessing the exceptional nonlinearity of AlGaAs‐on‐insulator nanowaveguides, four‐wave‐mixing parametric amplification achieves a record net on‐chip gain of 56 dB and a gain bandwidth exceeding 415 nm at telecom wavelengths. These results establish AlGaAsOI as a powerful platform for compact, high‐performance integrated nonlinear optical ...

The RP(^2) sigma and easy plane baby skyrme models [PDF]
This thesis examines the behaviour of two new models exhibiting topological solitons. This analysis is predominantly numerical, but a limited collective coordinate approach is attempted where appropriate. In chapter 1 we review the field of solitons.

Self-pulsing dynamics in a cavity soliton laser
The dynamics of a broad-area vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) with frequency-selective feedback supporting bistable spatial solitons is analyzed experimentally and theoretically. The transient dynamics of a switch-on of a soliton induced by

There exists, in general, no unique definition of the size (volume, area, etc., depending on dimension) of a soliton. Here we demonstrate that the geometric volume (area etc.) of a soliton is singled out in the sense that it exactly coincides with the ...

Frontiers of Bright CEP‐Stable Broadband Infrared Sources
Bright CEP‐stable broadband infrared sources push the limits of ultrafast science by delivering exceptional brightness alongside few‐cycle durations and multi‐octave spectral coverage. This review highlights emerging architectures and nonlinear conversion strategies that scale power while preserving phase stability.

Moduli Spaces of Topological Solitons [PDF]
This thesis presents a detailed study of phenomena related to topological solitons (in $2$-dimensions). Topological solitons are smooth, localised, finite energy solutions in non-linear field theories.

The interaction of solitons [PDF]
Nonlinear Optics As light propagates through a medium such as a lens or window, scattering and dispersion processes usually result in the light diffusing. In a nonlinear medium, however, the dispersion processes can be balanced by nonlinearities to produce localized structures known as solitons, or optical bullets. Krupa et al.

This work demonstrates a high‐fidelity stability transfer from an optical reference to a high‐repetition‐rate microcomb using a mode‐locked laser bridge. By employing electro‐optic sampling timing detection, femtosecond‐level synchronization and 10−18‐level fractional frequency stability are achieved.

Numerical studies of vortices and dark solitons in atomic Bose-Einstein condensates [PDF]
Dilute atomic Bose-Einstein condensates support intriguing macroscopic excitations in the form of quantized vortices and dark solitons. In this thesis we present extensive quantitative studies of the dynamics of these phenomena in the limit of zero ...
