Green and sustainable synthesis of magnetite from copper slag via citrate complexation for methylene blue dye removal from water

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract This study proposes a novel, green, and sustainable method for synthesizing magnetic iron oxides from metallurgical copper slag (CS), leveraging its iron content as a valuable resource. Iron was extracted via acid leaching using edible citric acid (ECA), forming a citrate–iron complex (CSL), which was subsequently thermally decomposed at 300°C

Effects of Basicity and Mesh on Cr Leaching of EAF Carbon Steel Slag

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
The slag’s chromium leaching is one of the most pressing concerns in Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) carbon and stainless steels production. In recent years, many studies have aimed at understanding which properties (basicity, cooling speed) and phases (

The master molecule that built biology: How water shaped the chemistry of life. [PDF]

open access: yesProtein Sci
Abstract The deep entanglement of biomolecular structure and function with aqueous systems supports the view that water actively sculpted both molecules and processes during the origins of life and continues to constrain evolution today. Nature's rules of biochemistry and biophysics have survived for nearly 4 billion years.

Selective Optical Properties of Cement for Enhanced Radiative Cooling and Energy‐Efficient Construction Materials

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Cement phases are good materials for radiative cooling thanks to the selective emissivity in IR ATW. Cement powders have high reflectance of solar radiation which reduces the thermal losses. The onset of the absorption curves is defined by bound excitons. Sulfates have higher radiated powers and reflectance than calcium silicates.
