Atmospheric Trace Metal Deposition near the Great Barrier Reef, Australia

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2020
Aerosols deposited into the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) contain iron (Fe) and other trace metals, which may act as micronutrients or as toxins to this sensitive marine ecosystem. In this paper, we quantified the atmospheric deposition of Fe and investigated

Spectral, mineralogical, and geochemical variations across Home Plate, Gusev Crater, Mars indicate high and low temperature alteration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Over the last ~ 3 years in Gusev Crater, Mars, the Spirit rover observed coherent variations in color, mineralogy, and geochemistry across Home Plate, an ~ 80 m-diameter outcrop of basaltic tephra.

Positively Charged Polymer‐Brush MOFs for Large‐Area, Pressure‐Resistant Gas Separation Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A universal POPA strategy enables positively charged polymer‐brush MOFs with self‐adaptive interfacial interlocking to resist aggregation under fast processing. This design ensures seamless dispersion within large‐area selective layers, achieving 1 m‐wide roll‐to‐roll fabrication of pressure‐resistant MMCMs with tunable CO2 separation performance ...

Hydrogels Under Superchaotropic Control: Polyoxometalate Stabilization and pH‐Responsive Crosslinking in Cellulose Ether Solutions

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Superchaotropic binding of Keggin polyoxometalates (POMs) to non‐ionic biopolymers like cellulose ethers (CEs) stabilizes otherwise hydrolytically unstable POMs in aqueous solution and allows conversion of pH‐nonresponsive polymers into pH‐responsive soft materials. The pH‐driven conversion from plenary to lacunary POMs switches superchaotropic binding

Elephant‐Skin‐Inspired Porous Cementitious Tiles with Programmable Crack Networks for Passive Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Elephant‐skin‐inspired crack networks are programmed in porous diatomaceous earth (DE)‐cement composites using substrate‐guided, stress‐concentration induced fracture. The resulting crack lattices act as capillary conduits that redistribute water, while the porous matrix stores moisture.

Dominance of 2:1 clay minerals in soil potassium across a weathering gradient: Insights from XANES speciation and sequential extraction

open access: yesSoil & Environmental Health
Potassium (K) is essential in the soil–plant–human continuum, yet its chemical speciation in soils with different weathering stages and in their clay fractions remains poorly understood.

Titanium Silicates Precipitated on the Rice Husk Biochar as Adsorbents for the Extraction of Cesium and Strontium Radioisotope Ions

open access: yesColloids and Interfaces, 2019
The aim of the work was the development of cheap and effective adsorbents based on titanium silicates deposited on the products of thermochemical processing of rice husk to extract cesium and strontium radioisotopes from aqueous media.

Spin‐On SiOx‐Assisted Inkjet Printing for Interdigitated n+ and p+ Poly‐Si/SiOx Contacts in Silicon Solar Cells With Suppressed Unintended Doping

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work presents an innovative spin‐on SiOx‐assisted inkjet‐printed approach to form localized n+ and p+ poly‐Si/SiOx passivating contacts for high‐efficiency silicon solar cells within a single‐annealing step. The developed process results in a well‐defined interdigitated doping pattern, with unintended doping and cross‐doping concentrations ...

Solubility of lead silicate glasses in aqueous media

open access: yesCommunications, Faculty Of Science, University of Ankara Series B Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, 1997
Chemical durability of some selected lead silicate glasses were investigated using hydrochloric add and sodium hydroxide as the attacking solutions. Different factors were studied such as the glass composition, concentration of the attacking solution and conditions of the immersion process. The experimental results obtained expressed in terms of the ...
