Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

The thermally/mechanically-driven structural instability of nano- and coarse-grained polycrystalline metals originates from the unstable grain boundaries (GBs). GB segregation of solute elements could not only stabilize but also embrittle GBs. To improve

A Rule of Solute Segregation at Grain Boundaries
The control of solute segregation at grain boundaries (GBs) is essential in engineering alloy properties, however the structure-activity relationship of the key parameter-the segregation energies-still remains elusive. Here we propose the electronic and geometric descriptors of GB segregation based on the valence, electronegativity and size of solutes ...

Grain boundary triple junctions are an essential ingredient of the microstructure of polycrystalline materials. In this study, a triple junction is observed using atomic‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy and characterized. Computer simulations reveal that the junction has a dislocation character that is determined by the joining ...

Experiments and thermophysical simulations were conducted to investigate the electron beam powder bed fusion electron beam (PBF‐EB/M) process for the γ′‐strengthened nickel‐based superalloy Inconel 738LC. The results demonstrate the impact of process‐induced microstructural variations on high‐temperature mechanical behavior, providing a basis for ...

Manufacturing problems such as heat treatment‐induced cracking hinder the widespread application of the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) process to superalloys. In this study, cracks in the LPBF components of Inconel 738LC superalloy are characterized after heat treatment at various temperature ranges, revealing two distinct cracking behaviors.

We apply a foundational machine‐learning interatomic potential based on the graph atomic cluster expansion (GRACE) to simulate the commercial Ni‐based single‐crystal superalloy CMSX‐4. Hybrid Monte‐Carlo/molecular dynamics sampling resolves short‐range order in the γ phase and L12 sublattice occupancies in the γ’ phase and connects them to stacking ...
