Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A New Bubbling Extraction Tower: Toward Liquid-Liquid Solvent Extraction at Large Aqueous-to-Oil Phase Ratios [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Enrichment and recovery of valuable components in industrial waste waters by traditional liquid-liquid solvent extraction is not economic due to extremely low concentrations of those targets. Large-phase-ratio extraction exhibits potential advantages for

Evaluation of thermodynamic contributions to extraction of medical devices by organic solvents as a sample preparation step in chemical characterization of medical devices

open access: yesJournal of Chromatography Open
The thermodynamic contribution to extraction of medical devices by organic solvents as a first sample preparation step in chemical characterization studies is evaluated by Abraham's solvation parameter model using five representative materials (low ...

Design and adjustment of coupled microalgae oil extraction methods for the development of a topology of biorefinery

open access: yesProspectiva, 2015
Microalgae have the potential to produce a big amount of biodiesel per area unit owing to its high lipid content. However, for a sustainable biodiesel production from microalgae, the concept of biorefinery must be taken into account; this concept can be ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Studies on 99mTc-pertechnetate from the MEK solvent extraction generator. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Analysis by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and high performance liquid chromatography has revealed organic residues in (99m)Tc-pertechnetate obtained from 99Mo-molybdate by extraction using the organic solvent methylethylketone (MEK). The organic

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
