Utilization of quaternary solvent mixtures for extraction of lipids from Scenedesmus obliquus microalgae

open access: yesCogent Engineering, 2020
Solvent toxicity is of major concern in the extraction of lipid from algae biomass via the solvent extraction technique. This study was carried out to determine the optimal solvent mixture (chloroform, methanol, ethanol, and dichloromethane) composition ...

Infusion extractor [PDF]

open access: yes
This invention relates to an apparatus and method of removing desirable constituents from an infusible material by infusion extraction. A piston operating in a first chamber draws a solvent into the first chamber where it may be heated, and then moves ...

Improved solvent extraction procedure and HPLC-ELSD method for analysis of polar lipids from dairy materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A normal phase HPLC-ELSD method which was improved from the method of Rombaut et al. 2005 (J. Dairy Sci. 88(2):482-488) for analysis of polar lipids (PLs) is presented.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

\u3csup\u3e13\u3c/sup\u3eC NMR Analysis of Biologically Produced Pyrene Residues by \u3cem\u3eMycobacterium\u3c/em\u3e sp. KMS in the Presence of Humic Acid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Cultures of the pyrene degrading Mycobacterium sp. KMS were incubated with [4-13C]pyrene or [4,5,9,10-14C]pyrene with and without a soil humic acid standard to characterize the chemical nature of the produced residues and evaluate the potential for ...

Novel use of stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) as a tool for isolation of oviposition site attractants for gravid Culex quinquefasciatus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Mosquitoes such as Culex quinquefasciatus Say (Diptera: Culicidae) are important vectors of organisms that cause disease in humans. Research into the development of effective standardized odour baits for blood-fed females (oviposition attractants), to ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Rapid analysis of triclosan in water samples using an in-tube ultrasonication assisted emulsification microextraction coupled with gas chromatography-electron capture detection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this study, a new in-tube based ultrasound-assisted emulsification microextraction (IT-USAEME) technique coupled with gas chromatography-micro-electron capture detection (GC-μECD) was developed for the efficient and rapid analysis of triclosan in ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
