Diagnosing the system: Mental health, necropolitical uncare, and the abolition of migration detention

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Community Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract This article examines the psychological effects of migration detention in the European Union's Closed Controlled Access Center (CCAC) on Samos through an ecological lens. It explores a double normalization of suffering: the brutalization of necropolitical migration governance and the simultaneous understanding of resulting distress as an ...

Analysis of mutational dynamics at the DMPK (CTG)n locus identifies saliva as a suitable DNA sample source for genetic analysis in myotonic dystrophy type 1.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Genotype-to-phenotype correlation studies in myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) have been confounded by the age-dependent, tissue-specific and expansion-biased features of somatic mosaicism of the expanded CTG repeat.

Mosaic analysis and tumor induction in zebrafish by microsatellite instability-mediated stochastic gene expression

open access: yesDisease Models & Mechanisms, 2014
Mosaic analysis, in which two or more populations of cells with differing genotypes are studied in a single animal, is a powerful approach to study developmental mechanisms and gene function in vivo.

Streamlining Diagnosis of Bardet–Biedl Syndrome: New Diagnostic Algorithm With Updated Criteria

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Considerable advances have been made in our understanding of Bardet–Biedl syndrome (BBS), particularly in its core clinical features and molecular genetics, warranting an update to the existing diagnostic criteria framework. Using a rigorous, evidence‐based, and consensus‐driven process, a multidisciplinary group of international experts and ...

Concurrent Germline RB1 & Mosaic TP53 in a Child With Multiple Childhood Cancers

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We report a patient with a pathogenic germline variant (PGV) in RB1 and somatic mosaicism for a pathogenic TP53 variant who developed three distinct types of childhood cancer: retinoblastoma, osteosarcoma, and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) before the age of 6 years.

Nanodiamonds as Bioactive Platforms to Modulate Microbial, Mammalian, and Vertebrate Systems

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Nanodiamonds (NDs) are biocompatible and antibacterial nanomaterials that support mammalian cell growth while inhibiting bacterial pathogens. NDs showed strong antibacterial activity, with Escherichia coli being more sensitive than Staphylococcus aureus. At 10 mg/mL, both bacteria exhibited ~8% viability.

Application of Peptide Nucleic Acid-based Assays Toward Detection of Somatic Mosaicism

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Nucleic Acids, 2016
Peptide nucleic acids (PNAs) are synthetic oligonucleotides with many applications. Compared with DNA, PNAs bind their complementary DNA strand with higher specificity and strength, an attribute that can make it an effective polymerase chain reaction ...
