Organization of primary somatosensory cortex in the cat
Journal of Neurophysiology, 19801. Multi-unit recordings were made from SI cortex of barbiturte-anesthetized cats. In four cats, multiple vertical penetrations were made at closely spaced intervals. In 12 cats, long surface-parallel penetrations were made in the rostrocaudal or the lateromedial directions with observations taken every 100 micron. 2.

AbstractThe cerebral cortex of adult mammals contains several somatotopic representations of the body surface. Although the organization of the various somatosensory cortices of numerous species of adult animals has been elucidated, data on the somatosensory representations of fetal and neonatal animals are limited. As part of an investigation into the

Proprioceptive Influences on Somatosensory and Motor Cortex
1979Publisher Summary This chapter describes the recently observed features of the peripheral activation of identified corticocortical and thalamocortical neurons that project to the motor cortex. Two input pathways to the motor cortex were investigated in cats, one corticocortical and the other thalamocortical.

Intracortical microstimulation of human somatosensory cortex
Science Translational Medicine, 2016Tactile percepts were consistently elicited in the hand of a person with cervical spinal cord injury using intracortical microstimulation of the somatosensory cortex.

Plasticity and the Somatosensory Cerebral Cortex
1991If the representation of the vibrissae (Chap. 3) is placed aside, there are six basic types of experiments that are related to the study of plasticity in the somatosensory cortex of adult and developing mammals. The first approach has resulted from the use of anaesthetic agents as part of the standard experimental protocol for recording in the central ...

Somatosensory cortex stimulation for deafferentation pain
2007Functional neuroimaging has demonstrated that a relationship exists between the intensity of deafferentation pain and the degree of deafferentation-related reorganization of the primary somatosensory cortex. It has also revealed that this cortical reorganization can be reversed after the attenuation of pain. Deafferentation pain is also associated with

The functional organization of somatosensory cortex in primates
Annals of Anatomy - Anatomischer Anzeiger, 1993Our understanding of the functional organization of somatosensory cortex and thalamus in primates and other mammals has greatly increased over the last few years. It is now clear that higher primates have four strip-like representations of skin and muscle receptors corresponding to areas 3 a, 3b, 1 and 2 of anterior parietal cortex.

Somatotopy of Human Somatosensory Cortex
1993We studied 4 epilepsy patients during presurgical evaluation. All patients had partial seizures defined by EEG recordings and behavior during seizures. The seizures were medically intractable, and the patients were evaluated with chronically indwelling subdural grids for definitive localization of the seizure focus.
