Incoherent processing of synthetic aperture sonar [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The technique of synthetic aperture imaging is well applied in radar to produce images with high along-track resolution. However, when applied in sonar imaging, maintaining phase coherence across the length of the synthetic aperture had proven to be the ...

Small-Sample Sonar Image Classification Based on Deep Learning

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
Deep learning is a core technology for sonar image classification. However, owing to the cost of sampling, a lack of data for sonar image classification impedes the training and deployment of classifiers. Classic deep learning models such as AlexNet, VGG,

A blind contour‐aware quality model for sonar images

open access: yesIET Image Processing, 2022
Since the penetration depth of visible light is limited in muddy and dark deep marine environment, sonar imaging, which is independent of natural light, has been attracting much attention in underwater detections.

On Correlating Sonar Images

open access: yesRobotics: Science and Systems I, 2005
This paper demonstrates that sonar images correlate badly because target geometry and image fringes correlate in different coordinate systems. It is shown that if the receiver is a line array, all point objects have the same image in a coordinate system with axes of range and the sine of target bearing (the (r, s) coordinate system).

Active Object Detection in Sonar Images [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Object detection in sonar images has always been a challenge due to the low resolution of sonar images and the strong noise existing in them. Although convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been applied to detect objects in sonar images, successful detection is impeded by the lack of large annotated sonar images.

Sparse Reconstruction-Based Inverse Scattering Imaging in a Shallow Water Environment

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Bistatic sonar or multistatic sonar system can collect more scattering information of targets than a monostatic sonar system. In this paper, sparse learning via iterative minimization method (SLIM) is introduced to distinguish wave components for time ...
